Today I had 2 people contact me on social media asking if I'd be interested in selling some of my JB commissions. Both were interested in a few of the large group shots I've gotten over the years. I declined.
I've received offers on the JB production art I own (many times!), but never an offer for one of the commissions. I do wonder if some people are misreading the original post of this thread...

I'm glad you're in such a mellow state JB. When I've been like that in recent years (5 weeks recovering from illness and 8 weeks due to unemployment) I have gone completely stir crazy. I was unable to even get enjoyment out of all the usual things I enjoy in my spare time - reading, watching tv/films, gaming etc. Seems I only like those things as a reward for the rest of my day.

Scott Dunbier is the new Byrne Whisperer at IDW, and yesterday he sent along a PDF of required corrections on issue 22 of NEW VISIONS. (Commas that should be periods, missing letters, etc.) I finished them in the afternoon, so I really am all done, for now!(Scott and I had an amusing exchange a while back. We were talking about an artist who will not work with IDW because Scott is there, and there is some degree of bad blood between them, from decades ago. "Well," I said, "you know nobody holds a grudge longer than he does!" Scott chuckled. "You realize YOU'RE the one saying that, right John?")

JB, congrats on joining the "unemployed". Four years ago my employer decided my services were no longer needed, so I decided to be "unemployed", as my severance package got me close enough to my plan to make it so. I was 56 1/2. I'm never lacking for things to do. A huge life changing event happened in my life 3 years ago, but that just left me with more things to do. I never considered going back to work. Like you I have a morning routine and I go out to lunch every day. Travel, chores, and assorted little life crises that pop up now and then keep me quite busy. I miss work not one tiny bit. Enjoy. The nice thing for you is that your drawing board is right there if you get the urge. One more thing.... I bet everybody at the the Cons I go to would love to see a panel called SPOTLIGHT ON JOHN BYRNE and see you participate on panels with other creators of your, shall we say, vintage. I highly doubt there would be crickets chirping around your table if you had one. Just sayin'.

I was gratified by the line at the NYC con last year -- but bear in mind, it was a half-day appearance after an absence from the con circuit of some 12 years. My last couple of MidOhioCons consisted of mostly staring into empty air, or servicing the same three fans over and over.

For what it's worth, IIRC Mid-Ohio was the one con you did for the longest time, so the regulars would have had multiple opportunities to get books signed by you. "Virgin territory" might lead to a different/ busier result.

This unemployment break sucks! I want you writing, drawing, and inking AT LEAST two books a month for Marvel and/or DC. One smash 'em up with four panels per page. One with more plot twists. I want you to produce your art, and I want to pay for the enjoyment of it until one of us is physically incapable of doing so.

I think you've more than earned the respite. Enjoy it. I'm turning 50 this year, with 21 years of policing under my gunbelt. Looking forward to hanging it up myself.
