Uncanny how this instantly reminds me of the covers to the dark Phoenix era. Ah... actually the whole JB run. Too bad (greedy me) we didn't have more of it.
Another great wall hanger.

It's the little things....

The way JB draws Storm's boots (not skin tight)...

And how JB draws Cyclops' visor....

This is just great and makes me long for the days of my youth, and about the time I started collecting The Uncanny X-Men which was around issues 129-130.

Wow .... just "wow"!

As beautiful as this terrific commission piece actually is, for the nostalgic among us it also engenders a degree of wistful sadness. That team, their unique interpersonal dynamics, and time together is a thing of the past. These characters will never again feature in an ongoing monthly series, looking that way, acting that way, sounding that way [ you get the picture].

In one respect, it's sort of a tribute to how good that comic was. Apparently every writer, artist, editor combo since the bronze age faded into memory, doesn't believe that they can adequately produce a book with these particular "Uncanny X-Men" that will measure up to such high standards, which belies how vehemently they promote fifteen to twenty regular X-titles as THE BEST EVER, but that have actually spread these characters across such a broad spectrum of, well ..... you fill in the blank.

Great job here, Mr. Byrne!

Why Storm's costume had to ever change is something I still don't
understand.

Chris was never one to stay on the same road for long. And, as I have noted, since the X-Sales went to cosmic levels after I left the book, I can only assume he'd found exactly the right harmonics with the audience.

(Until, at least, the ennui-engorged fanboys found a way to make their bleating heard, and then anything to which they were addicted of course became something they should dismiss -- while remaining addicted.)
