As a fan of the 'Silver Age,' I wanted to point out a new comic that
came out. Yes, its from Marvel, and even though I hate to admit
it, its really good. Please bare with me here...
Basically its a 'handbook' for Marvel characters from the '60s. I
think it says somewhere something to the effect of 'imagine the Marvel
Universe stopped on December 31st, 1969.' This comic (and
subsequent issues) cover that era.
What I really like about it is the fact that powers are NOT
quantified. There is no, 'doctor doom can press 10 tons' crap, or
'shoot laser beams of amazing quality.' There is only a history,
and a description of what the character has been seen to do, to that
point. For example, a snippet from Iron Man. "Iron Man
wears a suit of sophisticated battle armor utilizing state-of-the-art
miniaturized transistors that enable Stark to fly, fire repulsor rays
from his gauntlets, and project magnetic rays. The armor can also
function underwater." How great is that?
Anyway, I don't really want to pimp Marvel products, but this is some
really great stuff. Not only do you get a description of some
really obscure characters, but all that classic early Marvel artwok is
included. There is no new stuff excpet a cover by 'Our Pal'
Sal. Personally, I think the cover would be a great poster.

Just stuff out of the comics themselves. So if you like Ditko, Kirby, etc... then thats what you will get.
Looking at the cover again, I wonder why Sal drew the Hulk so big? He wasn't 'that' big in the '60s, IIRC.

They've already announced that they are doing a 12-issue modern day handbook along with 4 legacy books -- one each for the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.
I always liked the Handbooks and Who's Whos -- but I liked the historys and the broad overviews of the powers, as opposed to a detailed "Cyclops can project a beam with 6.04*10^4 megajoules of energy" quantification.
