JB, what was the reason for the some of the villains getting new costumes? I liked the tuxedo-ish look to the Vulture.

And talking of costumes, why did Spider-Woman go through so many in her first year?

That was part of the "modernization" process. We asked ourselves what the characters might look like had they been designed today, instead of 40 years ago.

As to Spider-Woman, I thought it might be fun to have he constantly looking for her look. So many superheroes step right into the costume they wear for the rest of their career. I could not see a teenage girl like Maddie being content with the very first thing she came up with. Or the second. Or the fifth. . .

Of course, it became a subject of complaint -- in large part from the same crowd who cry out for "change" and "growth" in these characters.

Thanks for the answers. I thought Spider-Woman's constant costume changing was a very novel approach and worked well. I liked the final one the best. A bit of a shame that the character logo on the top left of the covers didn't stay up-to-date though.

That bit always reminded me of Kitty Pryde's early days, when she couldn't settle on what outfit to wear. At one point, she even wore some (intentionally, by the creative team) garish roller-disco outfit.

I thought Year One Spider-Man was better than most said. Apart the link
between Doc Ock and Spider-Man, I thought the reactualiaztion was
pretty light and well handled - I cannot believe all the polemic about the
computer/miscroscop change (wich like you said, was not even a change
but something you add). I was much more dissatisfied with the stories in
ASM. Besides the art was absolutely gorgeous and dynamic all along, and
you had such a great cast of characters and bad guys to play with.

That said, my main problem was the way the issues were structured, with
the intro right in the middle of the story before the conclusion of last
month fight. If it was an interesting artisitc choice, and it made certainly a
nice and rich read in the monthly (and it was intended to be a monthly
read - that's for sure) but very odd when you re-read the 12 issues in a
row.

I'd love to read another 'cut' of the story totally chronologic without
flashbacks. Not sure John would agree about that tough :)

The new costumes... Octopus' armor was wonderful. Otto never seemed so powerul and dangerous! The Vulture's costume was a bit odd, but not bad. Electro had a good costume, but it seemed so similar to Spider-Man's (same design without webs and spider symbol)!
By the way, these changes didn't disturb me.

My memory of Chapter One:

Customer comes up, telling me how bad Chapter One is.  How Byrne's an egomaniac who thinks he can re-write Lee/Ditko, etc etc

My response?

"That's £4.65 please"

(copies of issue one, two and three were on the shelf at the time)

Customers.  They make me crazy.
