I recall Howard Chaykin saying that one of the things he loved about Mobius, was that he would draw these fabulous futuristic cities and then, just as you'd see today, fill them up with garbage and graffiti.

Happy birthday to a true modern master.

Incidentally, I found this link a while ago,
it shows how Moebius uses photo reference -- heavily!!! It really changed
the way I look at his stuff.

To me, Moebius is like the wine, gets better with age!

By the way, I'm deeply honored to be the translator of the upcoming brazilian edition of the latest Blueberry storyline ("Mister Blueberry"). Joy!

Well, Will Penny is a highly regarded western, so it's not as if he's trying to hide it. Moreover, does it really matter if he uses photo reference?

Moebius is my fave! Happy Birthday to the designer of the spacesuits used in Alien! Amongst the many of his other credits!

+++++++++

In no way his use of photo-reference diminished my admiration for him.
My favorite book of his, one I've spent many an hour perusing, is (The Art
of Moebius) the one in which he discusses what was going inside his head
when he did each particular drawing. A great pleasure to read. He
mentions he used a photo here and there, but that website shows how
extensive - and creative - his use of photos is.

Highly recommended!
