As I have mentioned elsewhere, the publication of the X-MEN OMNIBUS allowes me to sell my bound volumes of the original comics. To make these "worth more" I decided to do some drawings on the endpapers. Problem: the first volume is all Dave Cockrum. What do I draw?

Well, I decided to do a couple (inside front, inside back) of tributes to Dave's covers. Here's the (obvious!) first one:

And here's what the two images look like, facing each other in the volume:

PS - I didn't notice until I'd scanned the piece that I'd left out Cyclops' left leg. That's been fixed in the original!

Ummmm. . .yes. Please?

Absolutely gorgeous. Makes me:

1.) Hate those who cancelled X-MEN: THE HIDDEN YEARS a little bit more
(didn't realize that was possible), and;

2.) Sad those "rumors" about you coming back to an X-Men book were
without any merit whatsoever.

That is really cool.  Cyclops is missing a leg though.

"Wow" is right!

A very interesting contrast to the Cockrum. Something about the figures in the original, particularly the Beast, suggest not only astonishment but the sense of experiencing something repellant. Not so in the revamp, but more sheer amazement.

Angel's outspead wings in the revamp are great framing device.

And the revamp has an excellent dynamism: Cyclops at the bottom is running at the viewer at such a headlong pace his left leg in back isn't even visible!

Edit: Oh. It was missing. I assumed differently. Ah well.

Question for Mr. Byrne: when did you start to consider changing Cyclops' jawline and even body-type to reflect more of his original nickname "Slim"?

Sorry, just put in an all nighter working and missed that, guess I was distracted by the art.  If I may ask, if you are selling these volumes, have you already got a buyer or will they be available through auction?

Question JB:  When you do a tribute like this...do you look at the original art or do you do it from how you remember the picture?
