For X-Volume II. Thought it might be fun to do my versions of covers for issues in which I did the interiors, but others did the outsides. 'Member these?

That re-do of the Magneto Triumphant cover is a dream come true!

What a clever staging of Wolverine's struggle-- the 3/4 angle has maybe even more drama than the original profile that George Perez chose!

I hope, in generous sincerity, that Dave Pruitt gets this edition.  I know it's one of his favorites.

More great reproductions. I really like the intensity on Wolverine's face on the second one.

JB somehow improved on Perez?

****

Assuming that to be true, I guess it would only be
fair. George improved on what I did on the interior
pages, when he did the cover, so now, 30 years
later. . .

Excellent work, indeed, Mr. Byrne!

Two questions:

[1] Why didn't you get first crack at the covers of so many X-MEN issues back when?

[2] Although you've mentioned that you today feel a bit distant from these characters, have these recent renderings in any way rekindled a bit of closeness?

(1) I wasn't "good enough".

(2) Nope. (Which may be why these are turning out
as well as they are. I often find minimal emotional
attachment leads to improved rendering. It's
becomes solely about the art.)
