Thanks Pedro!  Ordered the last two volumes yesterday which, since I don't know French, could be interesting...

Speaking of Bourgeon, could anyone please enlighten me as to what exactly happened between him and Casterman? I seem to remember an issue of Bodoi - maybe - where he was interviewed on the subject, but I never bought it and remain clueless to the intrincacies of that case...

Pedro,

I remember reading a few things about Bourgeon and his trial. I'll try to find the links and let you know, or give you a summary about it.

Well, Bourgeon was AWFULLY late on his book (we are talking five YEARS late or so!) and the publisher lost its patience and tried to force him to finish the darn thing (note that, following the french publishers' usual policy, Casterman had already paid an advance that, considering the usual sales of Bourgeon books, must have been quite high and had been waiting for years to see the finished thing).

So Casterman sued and threatened him with heavy fines unless he delivered the book. Bourgeon fought back at the court and was able to avoid the fines. His contract with Casterman was terminated (no idea if he paid back his advance) and he published the book through another publisher, Vents d'Ouest (a subsidiary of french comics giant Glénat).

There is more to it, of course, but this is the reader's digest version.

Thanks, Pedro - as always you remain the "grand master" of eurocomics lore... Interesting how apparently Bourgeon really had fault on this ( five years late!!!) because from what I recall having superficially read at the time, it looked as if the artist was some sort of martyr at the hands of a giant merciless capitalist publishing machine...

Pedro,

Here is the link I was thinking about :

http://www.actuabd.com/index.php3

Type "Bourgeon" in the "Recherche" box, and you will get a series of articles regarding the trial and such.
