I think a white and gold Phoenix costume would have looked great. (Speaking of white and gold outfits... Jerry Ordway's take on Mary Marvel's uniform worked well for me.)

Mr.Byrne...you started doing Phoenix' chest logo bigger...that was a great modification...and you did it gradually...did Cockrum comment on this?

Incidentally, this piece was mostly done with brush.
Well, the PITT pen brush nib, to be 100% accurate.

Mr.Byrne...you started doing Phoenix' chest logo bigger...that was a great modification...and you did it gradually...did Cockrum comment on this? *** The only thing I recall Dave commenting on in regards Phoenix was him saying he liked what I'd done with the flaming Phoenix Effect, and that he planned to draw it that way if the character was ever brought back. I was surprised by that, since I thought I was just drawing what he'd drawn! As to the chest emblem, it got bigger so as to fill out the same space that the black triangle had filled, since that was no longer clearly visible on the darker costume.

My rationale was that there are two scans in the commission gallery with Jean Grey wearing her Dark Phoenix outfit, but not apparently operating under the Phoenix's control.
I'll keep thinking about it.......
