Now that is one butt-ugly bust. Without the mask he looks like the Crypt-Keeper. Just who at the company that used to be Marvel approved that thing?

Or the old Choose Your Own Adventure books.  Remember those?

I do and I loved them, but that is not what I am looking for in comics.

Take off the Lips on that  Dr. Doom bust and he'd look like Vincent Price from that old Dr. Phibe's movie

"The bust also features a removable nose, so that you may choose just
how hideous Doom actually appears."

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggghhhhh!!!!

How can they be so close to the point and yet so many light years away at
the same time? It's like wormhole physics or something.

By never showing Doom's face, we alll got to choose how hideous
Doom actually appears!

I'm going to go out back for some primal scream therapy right now...

I'll be back when I'm done weeping.

I wouldn't buy it, but I don't see what the big deal is either.

[in re FF movie] Except for... about 45 seconds worth of dialogue, I thought it stank on ice.

****

I must have yawned and missed it!

I got back into comics about six months ago after several years away. There are some very good things that I've encountered in the past few months: this forum is great, books like the Essentials series now make it possible to read the "classics" without spending a fortune, there are some good comics being produced now, but in many ways the bad outweighs the good now. Marvel is breaking my heart!

When I was a kid, I begged my father for more "jobs" to do around the house so i could afford to get all those great comics of the time. Now i can afford comics and there are so few worth buying anymore. At the moment, i can think of 3 marvel titles that i actually enjoy right now.

Meanwhile, I'm also making an attempt at doing what I dreamed of years ago, but never seriously tried until now...writing comics. But...I'm seeing more and more that the three things i try to keep in mind are exactly the opposite of what many writers are doing now. Those three things are: write good stories, keep the characters in character, and get the work done in a timely and efficient manner.

Is that so hard? Apparently so!

It was obvious to me,even as an 8 year old that its not a good idea to show Doom's face!

Joe, could you tell us what year you were born? I'm working on theory that
this is a generational thing (not seeing what the big deal is). Thanks!

The second issue of JB's "classic" run on FF was my introduction to the FF
and their mythos. (That would have been the Johnny/Hammerhead/guy-on-
death-row issue.) So my very first introduction to Doom was the (awesome)
"Terror in a Tiny Town" issue. When Mini-Sue snuck in to Doom's chamber (I
think he was playing the piano, if I recall) and saw his face, her reaction,
and the fact that his face wasn't shown
, was what sealed the deal
for me. I knew right that instant that Doom was an awesome and terrifying
figure because my 11-year-old imagination was scaring me in ways no
drawing ever could
.

Al, I don't think its completely a generational thing. I don't know how old Joe is, but I have noticed that I seem to be one of the younger people here (I'm 29) and I get what the big deal is.
