I recall seeing an image of Doom where scar tissue was seen over his eye through the mask eye slits, i think it was during Jim Lee's short run on FF (series 2?). Very tantilising.

This is the fanboy mentality I bemoan so often these days. So many fans are convinced they could write the books every bit as well as the pros hired to actually do it, yet in most instances when they display their wares they demonstrate an amazing capacity for completely missing the point. They think it would be great if Wolverine dissected Cyclops. They think it would be terrific if Ben Grimm could swith the Thing on and off at will. They think Superman should stop being such a big wuss and really kick some ass. And, of course, they think it would be "cool" to see Doctor Doom's face. Not a month went by, when I was working on FANTASTIC FOUR, that I didn't get at least one letter saying exactly that.

Now, the people who wrote those letters are, in large part, running the show. And, in reaching that level, have shown absolutely no ability to leave their fanboy brains behind.

I think Lee might have been looking at some of Kirby's drawings, there.

Go to your LCS. Pick out the most fanboyish customer you can find -- the one who makes "The Simpsons" Comic Book Guy look like the height of culture and breeding. Ask that fan what he thinks would be cool to see in ^^**** comics. That will almost certainly give you a good fix on what's "next".

I hope we never reach the stage where comics are downloadable from the internet, at that point there is the distinct possiblity of voting on story lines, somewhat like Dungeon and Dragon gameplay.

Or the old Choose Your Own Adventure books.  Remember those?
