I recall JB writing, that at the end of the last Galactus-Story the big G would
crack open his helmet and energy would start flowing out of him leading to
a new Big Bang.

That is the true helmetless Galactus.

Another paradox thing about the depiction of Galactus without a helmet are
the squares in his eyes. The three-pic sequence from the Ron Lim-Silver
Surfer issue just skirts the issue by simply making the squares appear when
the helmet is on.

What he said, with The Last Galactus and all.

Not sure I see a big deal with him appearing sans helmet since Kirby showed us his "face" in the one-shot.

I think what Galactus looks like is a matter of perception, truth be told. He probably appears to most in some form of that armor, and they likely see him as being a giant version of whatever they are. We see him as a giant human in purple and blue armor. When he took his helmet off in Hercules, that is how Herc would perceive him.

While I don't want Galactus running around without his helmet, it doesn't bother me if we (the reader) sees him without it from time to time.

My feeling is:  if he wears a helmet, he must look like something underneath it.

Of course, this raises the question:  is he wearing a helmet?

If he is in fact, a force of nature that all beings see differently (as JB wrote it), then the helmet itself is only part of the illusion.

That's how I feel about it.

I think this thread and the colorblindness thread have converged.

Ideally, if we had to have a non-helmeted look, I'd make him look like a young Jack Kirby.

Jack Kirby drew him without a helmet? What did he look like there?

I'm with the "that's how he was perceived" folks...

Edit: Here's some pictures that Kirby did. I found the origin comic.
