My experience showed me that using Pelikan India ink was best for finished art on Bristol boards, while markers (I prefer Micron or some other brand with a strong black ink) do well with thinner sketch or drawing papers.  Whenever I used a brush, a #2 was good for most linework and a #4 for filling in large black areas.  In finer details using India ink, I prefer fine crowquill pens.

You welcome, Kevin. I like the Pelikan, as well but it is hard to get in the US. I used to use the Micron pens but I switched to the Pitt pens and they seem blacker and less apt to fade. For crowquill, I use a hawkquill #107.

PITT pens are also refillable, tho not actually made
to be. Twist off the end cap, and you can drip in a
new supply of india ink*, coaxing several extra weeks
(or even months) of life out of the pen. Basically,
until the nib gives up.

*Be careful doing this! The ink will blob out of the nib
end when the inner repository is "full".

I haven't inked much. I bought a Raphael #3 and found it to be incredibly responsive. In the sense that it's easy to control it's width. It's hard to explain. When I buy ink, I try it out and make sure it's black. Apparently, this isn't important, but I enjoy having my originals a true jet black. Most black inks are really a grey.
