Yeah, the brown and tan costume makes the most sense for me.
For someone who was supposed to be a great hunter, assassin, and ninja, bright blue and yellow didn't make much sense. Why not have a neon hat and foghorn announcing where you were?

Loving the original does not preclude loving the brown and tan one either.

The brown and tan costume is the best Wolverine costume.....by far.
This is, however, a fantastic drawing.

JB: "Always seem to find myself of two minds on that point. The massive outsprouting of arm hair didn't happen until George Perez did that cover for 112. Dave tended to draw Logan as if he had flesh colored sleeves in his costume -- he seemed only to be hairy when out of costume. After George did his cover, I thought "Why not!" and just went with it.
Still leaves me wondering what to do every time I draw something pre-George, tho."

Hmmmmmmm..... explaining the mysterioius appearance of arm hair. I smell a mini-series! Or in Marvel's case, a 24 issue arc.

…was there ever anytime after you took to drawing the arm hairs on Wolverine that you regretted it because of the added time to draw it?*** Not really -- tho Terry might have! +++ On another note. as I understand it, the reason Wolverine's mask changed is because Gil Kane drew it wrong on the cover to "Giant-Size X-Men" #1, and Dave Cockrum thought it looked better and inked it the way Kane had it. Is that correct? *** I have heard this tale before, and while I have no certain knowledge either way, it seems unlikely. In those days covers were usually done after the interior pages were finished. So unless Dave liked Kane's "mistake" enough to go thru the whole issue and redraw the mask to match the cover*, the redesign is something I would credit to Cockrum, as a deliberate choice on his part.
*I used to own a page from this issue, and Wolverine's mask showed no evidence of such alteration.

Jonathan Watkins' comments are dead-on: for a pose I asked for a sneaky (as he acted early on) rather than savage Wolverine in the commission, and JB nailed it.
Also I must admit I've not read the Hidden Years series (it was after I stopped collecting) but it may have made a good story to see this version of Logan interact with the classic X-men.

Sweet, o so sweet. I was actually thinking a while back that it'd be ever so interesting to see JB do an original costume Wolverine character pose, so I was immensely overjoyed at this result.
On many levels I think this may be the best look for Wolverine... I'd love to see a JB mini about this guy. Could be like James Bond in superhero suit.
