I am a big Aquaman fan, and I agree that the character was darkened for no good reason whatsoever.

Great piece, JB.

By the topic title, I was hoping for Namor. But beggars can't be
choosers.

I don't know why people think of Aquaman as the "joke" of the JLA?

He's a powerful guy in the right hands...

What I hear most often is: "He's the guy that talks to fish." No one can ever seem to give me any other reason for why "Aquaman sucks!" other than that.

Too bad for them.

Maybe it's just because I have had much more exposure to DC than ^^***** over the years, but as soon as I saw the word "Fishy" I knew it was going to be Aquaman. He is, after all, the guy that talks to fish (which I don't consider a bad thing). Unless Namor does that as well.

JB, your work on this piece gives off a Ramona Fradon vibe to me! Nice!

Very good. Aquaman exudes that trademark "JB exuberance" that I like very much. Also, I nominate this and the Cap commission for inclusion in a special pamphlet to be sent to a selection of artists who routinely overdo scales in superhero costumes.

Kudos to the purchaser of the comission peice for requesting something more unique. We all love to see John revisit characters he's best known for, but the comission is a chance to play,.."what if !!"

JB -

You say "only as a period piece" if you were offered Aquaman.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can assume you probably have a solid story or two for Aquaman in this classic green-fin era, but being a fan of yours I know you often jump onto a book/character and tell a couple GREAT stories but unless you're specifically there to "Byrne" the character's origin, etc - you tend to leave the chararcter as you found them, except they have a couple good stories behind them.

If you could tell some Aquaman stories - any era you wish - what could you bring to the character that would become a lasting piece of Aquaman's mythos?  What would make Byrne's Aquaman a version worth reading?

...and, of course, now that I've asked that - you probably can't answer since you don't want to be giving away your ideas....but if you could perhaps generalize....

Thanks.

I feel Aquaman should be as strong as the Sub-Mariner (I know that he isn't).

And I like how JB made Robot Man as strong as Iron Man (made him look like him too), or to paraphrase, nearly on par with Superman.

This one has me feeling nostalgic. Another great one, JB.
