Mr. Byrne,
Being one of my all time favorite artists and also an inspiration in my work, I always try to know more about the methods you use to develop your work. I have the impression you're a 3D fan (probably read it somewhere, don't know if it's true) and probably open minded or maybe curious when it comes to "new technologies" in comics.
My question: Have you ever tried using Illustrator or even Painter to ink your works? If so, what's your opinion? Do you prefer the "good old" nib and brush? I for one tried it a couple of times and still prefer the traditional way. I'd like to know your opinion.
Thanks!

I haven't manage ever to penetrate the mysteries of Illustrator. My main graphics tool is Photoshop. I have used that on occasion, mostly for "special effect" and spotting blacks in scanned pages. One page of GENERATIONS 3 I drew entirely in Photoshop, just to see how it worked.

When I use the table I can't seem to get the feeling of the pen... it's like I'm drawing without looking at the paper (which is exactly what I'm doing). It feels akward... I have no control...

I'd love to see what the Chief could do with a Cintiq.
My guess? About fifteen books a month if two of them had other writers
or co-plotters.

Could not IMAGINE using it vertically, as shown.
Maybe if it can be laid flat…

JB: Strictly a mouse man!
That is crazy talk.
I love photoshop and I can do things with images that would make your head spin, but I can't draw for crap on it, especially not with a mouse.

JB: My past 2 girlfriends have been animators who work on these all day,
so I can verify that they are on a very sturdy base and tilt to most any
angle you're comfortable with.
Man, that sounded odd after I typed it.

JB,
Actually illustrator is very easy to ink over pencils or any other artwork, with a tablet even easier!
I've been inking with this method since 1990 and it still blows away any other method. Cause when you are done, the artwork is scale-able and you don't loose quality of line.
The file size of the finished piece is a fraction of what it would be using photoshop or painter.
Here is a link to a video I made that I ink over you pencils, with all the app windows available to see exactly what I've done step by step.
