Thanks for the info below Michael Connell.

I found this:

Reflexes: Even prior to his upgrade, Puck trained himself to be the best shape possible. He could act out many battle tactics in his head only in a fraction of a second and in the next heartbeat act. In the same handbook they had Puck and Spider-Man with the same reflexes.

Speed: After having his body compressed, Puck gained superhuman speed, with the ability to run 111-115 miles per hour

Stamina: After having his body compressed, Puck gained superhuman stamina: the ability to sustain peak exertion before fatigue impairs performance up to one day. As noted by Puck, fatique isn't a factor with his upgraded body

Strength: After compressed, Puck gained superhuman strength. He is Superhuman Class 10, able to press 2-10 tons.

Yoga: Trained by an old Hindu named Dr. Srivinda, Puck learned to slow his breathing and alter his body temperature. He can be submerged in the freezing Arctic water for minutes without repercussions, this prior to him gaining his altered physiology.

None of that reminds me of the Puck I remember reading in the mid 80s.  Don't remember him as a superhuman.  Thought he was just a small athletic guy with a temper who liked to drink beer and kick butt with a very unique fighting style.  Seem to recall him being a bouncer in a bar.  I am gonna have to pick up those Byrne issues again to re-read.  Now a got a Puck jones I gotta feed.  Thanks a lot JB.

As I read JB's AF, Puck was a highly trained human-- not superhuman by any means but one helluva brawler with a rather unique means of moving around. Naturally, that wasn't good enough for m-word.

I remember the issues where Walter "lost" to Tanaraq. Freaked me out the way he grabbed Aurora and nearly strangled her with her own scarf.

JB, did the commission-requestor ask to have Aurora in the original black costume? Whatever, I have to admit, I liked her with the black outfit and long hair the best! Definitely one of your sexiest characters.

Snowbird pulling Sasquatch's heart out was one of those Wow! moments for me.

JB's AF was a great run.

This is a really cool rendering, btw.

If anyone should have killed of AF, it should have been JB.  If you were bored with the series and characters, you should have concluded the series permanently.  Were sales THAT good that you couldn't have (wouldn't have been allowed) done that?

What Bill Mantlo did to Puck (my favourite JB-created character ever), and
Alpha Flight in general, is THE reason I stopped reading comics.

Funny thing is, as much as I hated Mantlo's writing, it was the sense of
betrayal by Marvel that they would allow it to happen that turned me off
of comics. It was clear that as a company they had no respect for the
characters I had come to love -- something that was being reflected in all
the books I collected at the time.

I wonder what that 14-year-old me would think of how much more
sickeningly true that is now...

Anyway, what a treat to see these characters briefly again in the hands of
one who, even if he did not love them the way I did, respected them
enough to treat them right.

Thanks, JB.

Very nice, JB. I gotta dig those issues out and read that run again. Those were some fun comics.

AWESOME!!! Almost brings tears to my eyes.
I have yet to read JB's AF run though I bought the back issues last year (tired of waiting for TPBs that failed to arrive, and then after I buy theissues, hey presto!)... I'm waiting for the time to sit down and devour them in a nice li'l string. Love the characters though. Have since first encounering them in X-Men as a kid. And from what I've seen browsing through the AF issues... looks like so much freaking fun!

Well, we all know that that by no means mean that they're forever safe from desecration. If ^^***** wants to do it, they'll sure as hell find a way to do it.
^^***** : "O no, they're not dead, they were all just trapped in a side dimension, and now that they're back rapes and mindnumbing violence seems to be in order. Only should the characters perform it or should they be the victim thereof."
*shudder*

O yeah, Busiek really knows how to treat characters and concepts with respect. Can't thank the people in hear who tipped the balance and got me to invest in the HCs of his Avengers material. I love it so far, and even though it seems to be at its top while in collaboration with Perez, I think what folows hold interest, and I'm looking forward to the fifth volume this summer.
And Astro City is just one big love story to the genre. As he himself puts it, the stage after all the deconstructionism of yore – putting the thing back together again, showing the love for the thing itself.
So Busiek on AF could have good potential. Not to mention the potential of a Busiek / JB collaboration. Two people who actually love the genre and the concept, and respects it. That sure as heck sounds as great potential to me.

JB!! Great job with this commission!! ALPHA FLIGHT has never looked
