I got that on Cyclops. "Make him look like a leader!" Then, a few years later, from the same source, the artists on X-FACTOR were getting "Remember, he used to be 'Slim' Summers!"

"Ah, Kurt ol' buddy! Look what they made ya do..." (crying into a pint of beer)
There's a whole lot of fun stories about the friendship between Nightcrawler and Wolverine that I'd liked to have seen done. The old swashbuckler and brawler routine, and so forth. Can't do that with the characters as they're being presented to us now, can we?
Good show, JB!

I love it.
To me JB has always drawn the best Nightcrawler. I love when his face is heavily shaded. Nightcrawler was one of my favorite X-men from his run because he seemed like a shy and gentle character.

JB: "Larry Storch played Agarn's identical cousin, who was known as "The Burglar of Banff". Banff is a township in western Alberta, about 60 miles from where I lived in Calgary. Despite the spelling, people tend to pronounce the name "Bamf" -- tho on F TROOP it was pronounced, for comic effect, as Banph-ph."
*****
For shame, Doc! Agarn's cousin is not the Burglar of Bamph-ph. Agarn's cousin is Lucky Pierre! The Burglar of Bamph-ph was trying to frame Lucky Pierre.
I only know this because that episode was on the six episode preview disc that I watched over and over until they finally released season one on DVD. I love this series.Season two coming out this month! This is a great episode ("The Singing Mountie") and is part of the season two bunch. Wow - an X-Men thread that drifts to F Troop. I've died and gone to Thread Heaven.

Chief - great Nightcrawler. For some reasone when I draw him the biggest challenge I have is with his hair and the shadows on his forhead/hair...any suggestions?
On another note, it is interesting how different Dave Cockrum first drew the X-Men and how he drew them when he returned ot the book after John left. I especially think it was noticeable in the way he drew Nightcrawler and Storm's faces.

For some reasone when I draw him the biggest challenge I have is with his hair and the shadows on his forhead/hair...any suggestions? *** My fix on Nightcrawler's hair came from an odd dichotemy. When Dave Cockrum was handing the book over to me, he showed me some of his sketchbook drawings of Kurt, and said "People make the mistake of drawing his hair as if it's like fire, but it's really just curls." Yet, when I looked at what he was showing me, fire is exactly what I saw. So, when I drew Herr Wagner, I drew hair in the shape of fire. Seemed to work! As to the lighting on his face -- it's supposed to look like someone holding a flashlight under his chin in a dark room, but if you draw that literally it doesn't really work. So I cheat from image to image, shadowing the face as is appropriate to the expression.

Another great one. I've been off line a couple of days, so I've been going through a bunch of great commission pieces by now. Like a full meal of good wholesome comics art.

Well, it just so happens that I hit myself in the crotch 15 times every
morning to atone for my many sins, so I'll just do five more and we will call
it even. My Thread Heaven has turned into Thread Hell!
