Brilliant intro to the Great Lakes Avengers! Everyone uses their powers in the
first scene, lots of mystery to all of the characters, lots of fighting.

And a swim suit shot of Wanda.

I really gotta go back and read these again.

A one piece swimsuit no less. Which is how Wanda would dress at the pool. Not like an SI covergirl.

Good point, David.  Alas, an appropriate example of Stan Lee's maxim "Never give the readers what they THINK they want"!

Now we start to see Hawkeye's mettle.

The inks seem a bit strong on this one...

I wonder if Mr. Byrne had any additional plans/uses for the Great Lakes Avengers?

The thing that surprised me about this issue was the number of letters from readers who didn't "get" it. "What a stupid name for a group!" "What stupid names for the characters!" "Byrne has really lost it!"

And here I had worried that I might have gone too far emphasizing that it was all supposed to be "stupid".

(Oh, yes -- and there was the reader who accused me of being a racist, because Doorman is Black. sigh)

"Milwaukee don't have no superheroes!" -- great line!!

This is my first time reading any of these because all this was produced after I stopped reading comics. Very cool to discover them now!

Can't say I'm loving the inks, though...

Mr. Byrne...You moved my carpet the first time that i saw the GLA in AWC. Great issue, lots of action. I liked the scene with USAgent and Tigra in the kitchen.
