Deadman has unfortunately gone the Vertigo route. With a different character entirely. The last time I saw the Boston Brand Deadman featured was in Nightwing Year One. Done by Chuck Dixon and Scott McDaniel. That was about three years ago.

I actually had the displeasure of reading issue one of the Vertigo series. I had no idea they weren't going to use Boston Brand.

Please tell me you are kidding. Please. I'm not sure why I should expect any better. Look what they did to Corrigan. One of my all time favorite Batman titles featured Deadman. Pretty sure Neal drew that one.

Here's something you can all lose sleep over: About 35 years ago I picked up a gorgeous Neal Adams pencil drawing of Deadman on half a sheet of art board. Many moves ago, I slipped this inside a large book for "safe-keeping" -- and I have not seen it since! I have no idea which book it is in, and there are just too many to search. I just hope one of these days I will pull out a reference volume… and there it will be!

I swear I'd lose sleep over that if it was me. Guess there are some books that you haven't leafed through in ages. Hope you didn't get rid of the book...

Okay - THIS is my new favorite commission - I love it! If it only had Batgirl on the cycle I would love it...

Neal Adams did a good job on the Tim Drake Robin costume, huh?
BTW, is it true he thought Iron Fist's costume was "stolen" from Deadman?

He may have. It took me several issues of actually drawing the character to realize Danny's collar was -- logically -- a completely different configuration from Deadman's.

JB, I have a question regarding character hair color, and how it is portrayed in black & white images. White or blonde hair seems straightforward, as does black hair, but how do you determine how much black mass/white highlight to use when rendering red or brown hair? Seems I recall Jean Grey's hair being darker when she became Dark Phoenix, which I assume was a deliberate decision on your part, but how do you decide how dark is "too dark" for redheads and brunettes? How does this decision change (if at all) when the image isn't to be colored?
Thanks.
edit for spelling
