Dave -

Go back to page one and see where Vinny Valenti asks JB:

"But what's going on with the scene featuring the Hudsons? I'm not sure I
'get' it."

Got it. The question remains, is it actually from a comic or is that new story from JB just for this piece?

Also, the various elements, JB's choice or the commissioner?

I'm probably wrong but I thought the Hudsons - Logan training scene was a tip of the hat to the untold Wolverine origin that JB had planned (see FAQ) because of the bandages around Logan's forearms, having recently acquiring the claws from the Canadian Military.

Also, it's nice to get a taste of what the Wolverine - Sabertooth deathmatch might have looked like.

When I first glanced at the thread title, I thought it said, "Mortgage, eh?" I
was picturing Alpha Flight moving into a split-level ranch.

Yes!  These are great "bonuses" for those who know of the untold stories.  Good call by the commissioner and thanks to JB for going along (if that's how it came about).

A montage made from the outline of unused X-Men stories that you have, Cory, would be a great way to kind-of realize those old dreams.

Fill up, damn piggy bank, fill!

Hi Folks,

I've received some e-mails and also seen posts to the Forum with questions on how the montage commissions are requested.  FYI, here is the exact request I sent JB for the Wolverine montage:

****************************

20" x 30" montage commission of Wolverine as follows:

Large central image of Wolverine in his brown and tan uniform
leaping at the viewer

Vignettes:

1. A scene of Wolverine training with Guardian and Heather

2. Wolverine vs. Hulk and Wendigo

3. a shot of the X-men reminiscent of the GS # 1 cover

4. a scene of Wolverine vs the Hellfire guards

5. a Wolverine/Sabertooth battle.

6. Days of Future Past Wolverine slicing a Sentinel head

******************************
This description was approved by the person who commissioned the illo before I sent the final request to JB.  The only additional information was that Wolverine's costume in the vignettes matched the one he wore in the comic book the scene was based on.  The decision to do the piece portrait or landscape was left up to JB.

Prior to the final version of the request, there was some back-and-forth between the "commissioner", myself, and JB to determine the final price and various vignettes that would appear.

Hopefully this answers some of the questions folks have about the commission requests!

Jim

I just noticed there's a colossal goof in this piece. Luckily, Jim hasn't picked it up yet, so I can still make the necessary correction!
