Since I know that there are some folks like myself on the forum that haven't been pleased with the way the Marvel Universe has gone over the last several plus years, I'm curious to find out if Marvel finally came to their senses & decided to re-boot everything back to basics, what would be some choices by forum members for creative teams on specific characters (can be just a writer or artist if no team in mind) or characters that don't have a title that they think should have one as part of a re-boot. More or less: your dream titles for Marvel if you were the EIC.

Here's just a rough idea of what I'd like:

Avengers: Writer: Kurt Busiek. Artist : George Perez.

Captain America: Writer: Roger Stern Artist: John Byrne.

Iron Man: Artist Micheal Golden.

Thor: Writer: Walt Simonson. Artist: Ron Frenz.

Fantastic Four: Writer: John Byrne. Artist: Alan Davis.

Hulk: Artist: Art Adams.

X-Men: Writer : Tony Bedard. Artist: Paul Pelletier.

John Byrne as the top dog, and the rest would follow..  It would be very interesting to see where that would lead the business, and JB seem to have a feel for this kind of thing.

Whoever wrote the "bible" for the JLU animated series? Maybe that guy would do a good job. Respectful(mostly) yet still vibrant. Iconic.

That's what I would want a Marvel reboot to be. So put THAT guy in chrage of hiring writers and a set of solid rules for editors to enforce to keep schenanigans to a minimum.

Hopefully the Reboot would not follow some sort of event.  Put good creators on the titles and let them create without parameters.

I would like to see JB work at Marvel again someday, but not on FF, I want to see something different, I am just not sure what.

Well, if there's a reboot, the Q'Bendis has been defeated and thrown into a roiling volcano by the Black Condor. Outside of that event, well...I have to admit I prefer DC much, much more there days. But the comics I would enjoy (and buy):

FANTASTIC FOUR, writ/art by Alan Davis (unless JB is doing an "evolved" FF with new unis, "new" Thing, ect...then I'm all for JB)

THE INCREDIBLE HULK by Roger Stern and Steve Rude

MOON KNIGHT by David Michelinie and David Mazzuchelli (wherever the hell he is)

MACHINE MAN by Roger Stern and Tom Scioli

CAPTAIN AMERICA by Kurt Busiek and Ron Frenz

POWER MAN AND IRON FIST by Mike Grell

THE AVENGERS by John Byrne (Black Panther, female Giant Man, the Hulk with a brain, Nova, Wonder Man, and Quicksilver in green)

(From the If I'm Dreaming Dept) THE INTRUDERS...The Invaders only set in the late 1950s post-War/espionage territory. Union Jack, Hercules (there's a reason he don't recall it later in "continuity"), the original Black Widow (the one sent by Satan to collect souls to be consigned to Hell), Gorillaman, and the Whizzer. By James Robinson and Paul Smith.

My experiment is to try to pick teams based on a mix of what I'd like to read and what I think could sell.

  • Hulk: Rotating artists Tim Sale and Duncan Fredrego. I like the stuff I've read from Greg Pak, so I'd keep him on as writer.
  • Amazing Spider-Man: Written by Sean McKeever and rotating artists  J. Scott Campbell (provided he could keep up) and Bart Sears.
  • 2nd Spider-Man title: Written by Jeff Parker and rotating art by George Perez and Ed McGuinness.
  • 3rd Spider-Man title: Written by Dan Slott and rotating art by Mike Allred and Steve Rude.
  • The Fantastic Four: Written by Dan Slott and rotating art by Mike Wieringo and Mike McKone.
  • Iron Man: Writer Roger Stern and rotating art by Michael Golden and Whilce Portacio.
  • The Invaders: Set in the 1940's. Written and drawn by Darwyn Cooke.
  • Captain America: Written and drawn by John Byrne, inks by Trevor Scott.
  • The Avengers: Written by Stern and Busiek and art by Steve Epting and Mike Perkins.
  • The Avengers 2nd title: Written by Jeph Loeb and art by Lee Weeks and Tom Palmer
  • Thor: Written and drawn by John Byrne, inks by Klaus Janson.
  • Daredevil: Rotating art by David Mazzuchelli and Bill Sienkiewicz . I'd keep Brubaker on as writer.
  • Doctor Strange: Writer Kurt Busiek and artists Paul Smith and Steve Dillon rotating.
  • X-Factor: I'd keep Peter David and bring back Larry Stroman.
  • X-Men: Geoff Johns writing and Carlos Pacheco and Jimmy Cheung rotating on art.
  • X-Men 2nd title: Geoff Johns writing and Ethan Van Sciver and Ivan Reis rotating art chores.
  • Power Man and Iron Fist: Gail Simone writing and David Finch and Adam Kubert rotating on art.
  • Spider-Woman: Chris Claremont and Mark Bagley. (Covers by Adam Hughes)
  • Gaurdians of the Galaxy: Jim Starlin and Ron Lim.
  • Wolverine: Rotating writer/artist Walt Simonson with writer/artist Barry Windsor Smith.
  • Alpha Flight: Written by John Byrne art by John Romita Jr.
  • Punisher: Rotating team of Marc Guggenheim and Mike Zeck along with David Lapham writing and drawing the book solo.
  • Black Panther: Christopher Priest and M.D. Bright.(Covers by Romita Jr.)

Ultimate line:

  • I'd hire Steve Ditko (with P.Graig Russell inking) for Ultimate Spidey.
  • I'd put Howard Chaykin as writer/artist on The Ultimates.
  • I'd have Alan Davis do Ultimate FF.
  • I'd have Chirs Claremont writing with rotating artists Jim Lee, Andy Kubert and Marc Silvestri on Ultimate X-Men.
  • I'd have Frank Miller write and Ron Garney draw Ultimate Daredevil.

It might be best not to try to reuse creative teams on titles they have already had long runs on. For example we already had 30 or so (excellent) Avengers issues by Busiek and Perez so perhaps their talents could be better used elsewhere.

Perez for example has done no significant work on any X-Books and he excels at team books...

Now Stern & Byrne back on Captain America is a different matter as there was so much untapped potential there following their short run on that book.
