John, what ethnicity do you consider the good Doctor?

••

Doctor Stephen Strange is Caucasian, but I take my cue from Ditko…

And, as noted, tend to "cast" this guy…

This is a very interesting piece. I've never been interested in Doctor Strange
or that type of book and yet there's something about the central figure
which makes me want to learn more. I also want to point out his hands
look particularly expressive.

This is not the Doctor Strange I saw in a panel here or there in a JB comic. It
reminds me more of the images I've seen from Steve Ditko. Its the face.

Is that a picture of Richard Boone Mr Byrne , nice piece of Doctor Strange art by the way.

As I like to point out from time to time -- thanks for an excuse! -- despite my reputation to the contrary I "play by the rules", and as much as I might not like the way a character is being portrayed in the comics, if I happen to find myself in a situation where I am using that character, I drawn him/her as in the other titles. Keep the character "on model", in other words.

In commission pieces, tho, I feel I can get closer to what I think are the defining versions of the characters, in this case Ditko's original drawings of Doctor Strange (even tho Ditko himself drifted away from that image, and the good Doctor, like Peter Parker, got better looking as time went by).

It has been a motif of my whole career to get "back to the basics" whenever I can.

Namor and Human Torch definitely seem to be conspicuously absent from the character pose list.  I would rather see Namor without the shark skin suit personally...

I notice JB keeps drawing Namor with the Sharkskin costume -- is this a
request or just JB's decision? I don't recall Namor wearing the costume that
often during his time in the Defenders but I know he DID wear it
sometimes...

just curious...

Super-sizing a commission truly is a Virue.  Wait a second- I seem to recall the excuse for super-sizing this one is because of the good Doctor's cape, not for all of the delicious montage goodness!!  Instead of cape wrinkles or misspelled smoke words, you get Eternity, Namor, Baron Mordo, Dormammu, Clea and the Hulk among others?!  Sneaky Byrne!

JB has an open invitation from me to do either or both.  Any time, any place.

IMHO, this is the best of the montages.  Excellent!

It is nice to see another 11 x 17 montage.  Just a reminder that while the 20 x 30 are incredible, the 11 x 17 montages are impressive in their own right
