Dave,The actual art board has a blueline of Garcia-Lopez' pencils, inked by Breeding. These pieces were part of a style guide that Mattel used for packaging art for some of their toy lines. And yeah, I miss that Wonder Woman, too...

It is my understanding that they are copies of Garcia Lopez's blueline pencils printed on the board.

That's what I was trying to say earlier Ceasar. Beautiful pieces though. For the $ the site was asking for the copied work, I'll wait to plop the money down for an original pencilled piece by Garcia Lopez.

Well, I guess everyone's mileage may vary, but the appeal of these pieces to me is primarily Breeding's style of inking over Garcia-Lopez pencils--the Aquaman, the Wonder Woman (and a Batman that is yet to come) are perfect representations of what I like about each of the characters. So, does a blueline copy of pencils make a piece more or less legitimate? That's an interesting question, and one that will be answered differently according to different tastes. For me, liking Breeding as an inker and, and that the pieces are 'published' in the sense that Mattel has and is using them for packaging illustrations is enough for me to want them in my collection. I can see how others might view them differently, though.

Less legit? Not if you like the inker, or if that's what was printed. Collectors will have to get used to bluelined inked art, as emailing scanned pencils to inkers becomes more and more common.

Getting a commission from an inker can be dicey unless you have them recreate another artists drawing. Face it, some inkers just can't draw as well as most pencilers, or they just don't have much of a recognizable drawing style (not referring to Breeding specifically). So you might want art from inker X, but you want them to ink a pose from penciler Y. Does that make the art less legit? When you want a cover recreated, why have the penciler do it? Shouldn't it just be recreated by the inker (hasn't JB said this)? So, is that less legit?I remember when Ari bought an inked splash from Darwyn Cooke and Jay Bone's Batman/Spirit book. The dealer that had bought the page fron Cooke & Bone's dealer had forgotten to label it as Bone inks only (the Cooke pencils were done on a separate page). So Ari was told he was getting a Cooke & Bone page, not a Bone page. Big difference in value there, and the dealer really screwed up in the listing info. That can be the problem with buying "inks only" pages...when the seller gets the details wrong, and you find out a fully pencilled version of your page exists (like most of Kirby's Super Powers pages).

The dealer Lloyd got the WW from is one of the few art dealer sites I have bookmarked, and I got the Hercules Heart of Chaos #1 page in my CAF gallery from their eBay auctions. I was looking through the other Brett Breeding inked licensing pieces they have after reading some of the more recent posts in this thread, and I have to say I think Lloyd grabbed the best Wonder Woman piece, though I'm also really digging one of the pieces where she has a cape. (Have to resist the urge to inquire about one of the Batman pieces.....)

I think Breeding would look great over JB.
As for the JLGL-Breeding inked pieces, they sure are beautiful.
