I'm gonna throw caution to the wind & go with the theory that if JBNM "phone books" encounter the same sort of retailers that were apparently prevalent enough to cause JB to cancel the series...
In other words the self-fulfilling prophecy of telling potential customers that the book won't sell because JB's stuff either "sucks", "blows", "stinks", etc., then JB just may fold his cards on potential new stuff with Next Men.
Otherwise, if IDW does their part (promotion) & we do our part (purchase & promotion), there may be a light at the end of the tunnel.

it's just good to know that everything will be back in print for a while, and
new readers will have a chance to experience the book in a convenient
format. hopefully idw will also get the books into regular bookstores!

This is just awesome news. I remember when Essential X-Men came out and I revisited the X-Men run I loved so much but in a differnet format. The black and white gives it a noir feel that was different than how I initially experiecned the book. Next Men is perfectly suited for this format.
I find the phone books (Marvel's "Essentials" and DC's "Showcase") are excellent ways to get adult civilians to try out comic books. In the same way some kid's eyes glaze over when confronted with B&W, some of my friends are turned off by the splashy kiddy color of a comic but will try the B&W. So the phone books are a great way to break down the walls of pretentious bastards by beating them at their own game. And for less money.
"Next Men" was a geat reading experience for me. The writing and art really came together for seamless storytelling with amazing impact. I had left comic books hwne I was younger, but when i got to collge in Boston I was suprised at how many people were reading comics and how much fun it was to talk to people about growing up with comics. So I got back into them through Newbury Comics, but a lot didn't work for me. Next Men exceeded my expectations by a country mile. Next Men kept me reading comics and I have since.
I have the issues and I bought the trades as they came oout. I'm very much looking forward to seeing these in this format.

Tim, you took the words right out of my mouth - that is how I've always felt, but I could never quite find the right words. Thank you.
I am a big fan of black and white in 99% of reprints (there are some characters, such as Superman, who I prefer seeing in colour). But when it comes to the likes of Batman, The Punisher, Daredevil, The Flash and Next Men, black and white really suits them.

NEXT MEN has been around long enough that, with the sliding scale that
seems to apply, it now belongs to the "old stuff" that is automatically
"better".
There seems to be a small confusion on your part, however. NEXT MEN
was not canceled. I put the book on hiatus so I could clean the pipes and
return envigorated, and thru bad timing I happened to do so at precisely
the moment the bottom fell out of the market. I have been waiting for
some kind of sanity to return to test the waters once again with this
series.

I believe that Next Men has become part of JB's "old stuff" and is well regarded in most circles. Hopefully the sales of this book can warrant bringing this comic back on a monthly basis. Then, dare I dream, the triumphant return of Danger Unlimited! But I'm getting way ahead of myself.

I very much looking forward to this. I've never read the Next Men. What a great suprise.
JB, is anything being done to the art/story to make it better suited in a B&W phoneback, or are they being reprinted as is.

This is good news. Next Men is, in my opinion, very close to being your best work JB. I'll be getting these 'phone books'.
