The momentum just keeps on building, and I loved the surprise guest appearances on the last page of the main story.  I could hardly wait to get back to my LCS to see if they had the crossover issue.

Aurora is just gorgeous and I loved how you handled not only her split-personality but how others react to it.  I'm really enjoying the last moments we see Guardian in action for a while.  Mac was a man after my own heart, a beautiful redhead enters his life and he marries her as quick as can be.

…how many years Dr. Hudson is older than Heather?

Ten or fifteen, I'd say.

"Still my "all time" favorite cover, of my own work."

I bought #1 when it came out, and for some reason skipped #2. But I remember seeing the cover of #3 at the newsstand and thinking "I've got to buy this".

Yet another classic. These last few Reading Club threads make me remember just how darn good JB's Alpha Flight really was.

And the cover! Man, what more can you say about that? It's one of my favorite comic book covers ever by any artist.

The thing that impressed me about Alpha Flight is how well-defined and three-dimensional the characters were from day one. In most team books, the creators have a general concept for each character (i.e. so-and-so is the leader, this guy is the disgruntled strong man, she's the love interest, etc.), but it takes months or even years for the characters to fully mature.

With Alpha Flight, every character was interesting from the very first issue. This series drew me  in immediately and kept my attention until JB left (I actually kept reading for several more months afterwards, but it never was the same).

Snowbird became my favorite Alphan in this issue.

I've mentioned this before, but it's worth repeating.

When some fans criticize my work for "no backgrounds" or "scratchy inks" or "looks rushed" I confess there are, indeed, periods of my work to which these faults attach.* Thing is, those periods are about 99% to be found in the pages of FANTASTIC FOUR and ALPHA FLIGHT, the latter of which is often cited as being among my best work, while the former, as we all know, is "second only to Lee and Kirby".

It's fascinating -- if very, very frustrating -- to see the way these fan mantras (fantras?) so often run in tandem, while being, apparently, oblivious to each other.

* I still maintain it is impossible for work to look rushed, since there is no way to tell how long a particular page, picture, or issue took to produce. However, there were periods on ALPHA and FF, when Marvel changed the schedules and I actually was rushed, so we could, in this instance, allow this criticism to apply.

JB, did the cover concept come easily to you or was it more of a struggle? As I've asked before, does this cover qualify under the "with some pages I can remember what I had for breakfast that morning"? If so, what are your memories of creating this great cover?

Just out of curiousity JB.... If given free reign on a new Alpha Flight series do
you have more stories to tell? Would this hold any interest for you?

No interest, really. I was offered a Northstar series (sort of) about 15 years ago, and there were some interesting elements in what the editor wanted to do, but it didn't come together, and I've felt no "twinges" since.

I remember that I thought this was the coolest comic ever....the "pipes" that attack Auroa...always looked so perfect...like a computer made them. Also...LOVE post cognition...

Oddly, since it is my favorite, I have no memories of drawing this piece. I
can place myself in my studio of the time, and sort of "imagine" myself
drawing the cover, but I have no actual memory.

What if Mac and Heather had never met?  Would Shaman, Snowbird and Talisman have joined the team?  There's quite a bit of the story resting on this early mutual attraction.
