I missed the liscense plate the first time around too.  I also just noticed the Superman homage from the issues cover.  Good thing we have a reading club.

I liked the teasing of Sue's actual age "I won't be born 'til..."

So, Sue was 12 when Reed was 18? For some reason, I thought the age difference was greater.

I caught the Superman reference from the first time I saw the cover - so I'm not completely dim.  but I must confess I've read the FAQ reference to GNU556 before and I just plumb forgot.  It must have fallen through a memory hole.

I need to find other GNU556 instances in my collection; that will help it stick.  Or listen to some Flanders & Swann.

Thought I'd be the first to comment on the inks, but several people beat me to it!  I like Russell's inks on JB; they seem closer to JB's own than any other heavy feathering inkers.

John, did you know when your were producing this issue that you were going to get involved with writing/drawing Superman for DC? I'm asking because the car lift scene could be one of the best insider gags ever.

Love John Workman's lettering here, too.

I love little inside jokes like that. It's like finding a small nugget of fun in an already good story. It enhances my enjoyment of the book I'm reading, or the show/movie I'm watching.

One of the best issues, no doubt!

The cover is my favorite Action Comics #1 riff ever.

Last great arc, IMO.

Seems unbelievable we´re already close to the end of the run!

Fun story, and a very nice moment with Sue reminiscing about her history with Reed.

Unless he went in after a military stint.

+++++

Or it could even be the opposite...Reed's a genius right? So he could have been a college freshman at a much younger age than the norm, as one would assume he would have skipped a few grades along the line.

Reed celebrated his 40th birthday during John's run and in his first issue (#232), it was intimated that Sue was 29.  (When Sue is told by her stylist that this new haircut will take 20 years off of her age, Sue responds, "I'm sure my husband will enjoy being married to a child."  JB's original line substituted "9 year-old" for child but Jim Salicrup had it changed.

So, I have always given them a 10 to 11 year gap in my mind.
