Out of a couple of hundred commission pieces done to date, only one has been refused by the customer (so far!). Here's the piece that was declined and not paid for:
And here's something I was lead to in said customer's gallery online.
Thoughts?

Couple things:
I coulda sworn there was a She-Hulk commission that some guy went public in his forum about refusing, going on and on about how much he hated it. Am I misremembering?
Second thing:
Who did the "corrections" and removed your signature?! Bizarre.

Something about the nega-bands being missing -- tho (as with Christos'
Avengers vs Thanos) I had specified that I would prefer to draw the
Adams vintage Mar-Vell.

You are not! As I typed "one" I was thinking "isn't it 2? 2 out of 200?"

These are not "corrections". This is a swipe.

If you were a graphic designer designing, say, a brochure or a website and
you did all the work and then the client declined it and you checked them
out and their "new" site was pretty much an exact duplicate of what you did
that they didn't want, you can go after them.
That's blatantly ripping you off.
What's that signature line on the left of the dupe say?

Strange. I can see no reason why I wouldn't like that piece (if I had requested Shazam). There's some undecypherable writing on the left border. What is it ? Did the guy "photoshop" the scan ? And what happened to the original art ?

Jim Warden still has it, I think. Not sure.

Are you going to get the person to delete that sample from his collection ?

i make the boarder out as "Mac after Byrne 2007"
so much of a swipe it's pratically an interperative inking job -- no idea who Mac is but i wonder if he knows that the original was an unpaid for commision.

Actually, that's one of my favorite JB commissions. I see the guy added the bands on Mar-Vell. Rather than searching for some fresh-sounding invective for his actions, I'll just leave it at "a picture tells a thousand words."

Not cool!
I guess the customer hired another board member to draw him a copy, yes?

Isn't the swipe drawn by our very own Anthony Castrillo?
Anyway, I think it's poor tact on the part of the customer.

Lame.
It'd be one thing if he'd commissioned a new, similar illo of the Captains, but this...

Someone beat me to it. If the guy paid for it and then commisioned Mac to do another sketch with the nega bands, sure. The way it stands now? Lame in the least. Very dissapointing.

What an asshole. Nice commission, too. I liked that one.
JB, did the commissionee agree to the original version Mar-Vel before you accpeted the commission?

JB -
Would it be worth the time and money to develop a system that requires references from those requesting commission work? Perhaps something similar to E-bay's feedback system? A close (and trusted) friend of yours could take this project on so you can concentrate on the artwork!

I saw this on CAF site a week or so ago, and it just confused the heck out of me. You'd turn the drawing down because the wrist bans are missing ... to each his own I guess.
Wonderful drawing BTW JB!!

I like the commission. It's an interesting idea.
So if I'm understanding this right(and please correct me if I'm wrong, whoever commissioned this), you ask for someone to draw you a picture, you then turn it down and don't pay for it but make a trace copy of it and put V2 at the bottom to ackowledge this?
