Then there's the fact that Kirby created the Silver Surfer and endured Stan
Lee and John Buscema stamping their "origin" on his creation. Neither
Kirby, Lee, nor Buscema had ownership of the character yet Kirby was the
author and Lee pulled rank as editor to "finish" off in his way what
someone else had started. (Kirby got smarter as he went along and
delivered his origin of Galactus in the pages of Thor, much to Lee's
iritation.)

And -- most curious here. If you take offense over what you apparently
see as Marvel's misuse of a character they own, where is your like, or
perhaps even greater offense, at this post-mortem usurping of Kirby's
distinctive style. A use, we can deduce, of which Kirby would most
definitely not approve?

Absolutely--but he might not have gotten there had he not gotten work
when he did. Ditto Barry Smith--he became something very different over
the years but it took him a long time to get to that point. Had he not been
hired in the first place and been employed for those years--he might not
have gotten to where he went.

A lot comes down to seeing potential. Stan saw potential with Barry Smith. I
see potential with Tom Scioli.
And beyond the superficial--Tom's not swiping poses and compositions.

I thought of writing something about how the Kirby style could be a genre and how he was pretty unique place among comic artists to be so, but then figure you weren't addressing any points I'd made up to now, so it would be a waste of time. There's no point in a conversation with someone who makes up his mind and ignores anything said in the discussion on the subject.

If all an artist can do is ape someone elses style. How long can that second artist sustain a career ? Can they actually have any real staying power ? I think the answer is no. Atleast not while the source artist is still around.. At some point that artist needs to grow or else he willbe forgotten.
Everyone of the artist who drew like Kirby when they began their careers eventually matured into their own style.
So any of the Larsen,Liefeld, Mcfarlane clones (insert any other name here). Develop your own thing and make a name for yourself. Not a name for the people you copy from.
