I want to get a series of commissions (most likely 7-8 total) of various Justice Society characters (40s crew) vs. old Spider-Man villains.  I was originally going to stick with the Sinister Six, but aside from a few of the pairings (Wonder Woman vs. Sandman, Dr. Mid-Nite vs. Mysterio, and for some reason Green Lantern vs. Kraven (in the jungle so Kraven has a shot) nothing really sang to me.  So I'm opening up the list to anyone he's ever fought, but I could use to help and I thought it would be fun to get some suggestions from you guys.

Also, I'd like each one to be from a different artist so any suggestions along those lines would be appreciated as well.  (I'm going to attempt to get JB to do at least one, so JB, if you happen to have a match you'd be interested in doing feel free to chime in. ;-) )

Thanks!

Also, does anyone happen to have a scan of the first page of Ditko's Amazing Spider-Man #4?  A scan of a reprint is fine, but I can't find anything online and my Marvel Masterworks are boxed up.

I know this is the obvious one, but I can't help imagining how great this would look if drawn at a dramatic angle:

Hawkman battling the Vulture high over a John Byrne cityscape.

I kind of like the obvious:

Sandman vs Sandman

I also think Wonder Woman vs Doc Ock would be cool, if you had something like this:

with Wonder Woman parrying Doc Ock's tentacles with her bracelet.

Sandman vs. Sandman is inspired, but I would love to see Wes take on the
Green Goblin.

I did take on the Green Goblin once Ray, but it was at tiddly winks at 20 paces.  Oh, you mean the other Wes!

I would suggest:

Wildcat and Atom versus the Enforcers

Flash versus Electro

Hourman versus the Rhino

Going with my fave All-Stars...

  •    WILDCAT   VS    KRAVEN
  1.   The most obvious perhaps, but the slugfest would be awesome.  An artist for the commish? Steve Sadowski.
  •       STEEL    VS    MORBIUS
  1. Intriguing to me. Has weird reverb of Cap America/Baron Blood. I wonder how crazy Steve Rude would look on this. Steel looks like a guy Rude could get into drawing, very retro.
  •     THE FLASH    VS    JUGS
  1. I imagine the way it would play out is Jay bouncing off the Juggernaut like a bug off a windshield. But it intrigues me wondering how Jay would stop the big bruiser. George Perez would rule. Ernie Chan might be more approachable.I'd buy it.
  •    DR. FATE    VS    GREEN GOBLIN
  1. I see GG just giving Fate fits with his crappy little pumpkin bombs and finger-zapper. Plus he's insane. Paul Gulacy? Mike Grell would be awesome!
  •   HOURMAN   VS    THE LIZARD
  1. A battle to the death in the Glades. Can Hourman knock out Liz before his hour is up? A horde of gators controlled by Liz too. Might try Leonard Kirk, or Tony Harris.
  •       THE SANDMAN   VS   MYSTERIO
  1. The most surrreal match-up, as the man with dark dreams encounters the man who makes dreams dark. Well, Matt Wagner would be a way to go. JB would definitely be interesting. What about Tom Floyd?
  •  HUMAN BOMB   VS  MOLTEN MAN
  1. My favorite match-up personally. The fists of fury would be very literal. I'm intrigued. EDIT forgot to add potential artist on this. JB would be nice, though maybe too "dry" EDIT (excuse me, "dry" meaning as in interesting to JB)? Call me nuts, but I'd also like to see Ron Frenz or Sal Buscema or both take a swipe.
  •      HAWKMAN    VS   SANDMAN
  1. Carter Hall's mace too. JB doing his Kubert-inspired stuff would be pretty nice.

Sandman vs. Sandman was one of my first thoughts-I can even picture Wes Dodds saying 'Steal MY name, will you?' And naturally, it would be the 'street clothed' versions for both!

Dr. Fate vs. Mysterio-Fate letting Mysterio think those crappy little mind games of his are working...until Fate drops him in some hellish nether-world just to mess with him!

Johnny Thunder and Thunderbolt vs. 'A guy named Joe'.

Spectre vs. the black costume-OK, not an 'old' villain, but a possessed Jim Corrigan sounds like an intriguing idea!

Wildcat vs. Hammerhead-the two most '1940s' characters I could think of!

Atom vs. Kingpin...oh, c'mon, of COURSE!

Batman(and Robin) vs. Spencer Smythe/JJJ with  a renamed 'Bat-Slayer' robot.

Original Red Tornado vs. Frog Man-again, not an 'old' Spider-foe, but it sounds fun!

Paulo:  Yes, thank you.

The rest of you:  Hmmm, this might end up being more than seven...
