Whew !!

Got to this first this month !!

Just picked up my stash from the LCS -- huge Star Trek day (4 or 5 titles) and TWO Byrne books -- FX #5 and Assignment Earth #3.

FX #5 --- possible the best issue of the series so far.  I don't like to give story points away -- but suffice it to say, only George Perez could cram more action and characters into this book.  (any chance of Perez being the artist for FX3, Wayne?)

I sense Wayne was watching the Chronicles of Narnia when he wrote this issue.

The best thing about this issue --- after it gets all amped up and exciting --- it leads to #6 - and #6 will have to be killer to wrap this story up !!!!!    ARRRRRGGGGG !!!!!  Another 30 days!

Hey, Wayne -- any news on FX2 you want to discuss here?  I know some beans were spilled elsewhere -- please feel free to spill more if you want.

Best issue yet.

ONLY COMPLAINT -- the coloring.  I've decided it's NOT the colorists or the color choices -- it's the paper stock.  This high stock glossy that IDW uses is too nice a paper to give that "old school" feel that the colors are trying so hard to convey.  I'd love to see this series reprinted on cheaper newspaper stock.

I think the colors print too dark, at least that's how it looks to me. It doesn't
really fit the tone of the book. Otherwise, the book looks good.

5 was my favorite issue - so I'm glad you liked it. And not really watching
Narnia - I was thinking about Bullfinch's though.

I do agree that the colors seem to be printing dark on that paper. We will
definitely work on that.

And guys, I REALLY do appreciate the interest, but I don't think it's
appropriate to talk about the next mini-series on John's board when John
himself has nothing to do with it. We can and should do that elsewhere.

But, again, thanks.

John Byrne will ALWAYS have something to do with "Wayne Osbourne's FX" -- a fan's ultimate dream commission.

I truly admire what you did here, WO -- and I will support all your future projects with my $4 every month (actually, $8 since I buy my son a copy to thrash as he reads it -- speaking of which -- this glossy paper doesn't fold as well and the newspaper stock -- falls out of pants pockets)

Such discussions seem to do quite well in the weekly comics threads, so we have an avenue in place.

I think the story in #5 is the best yet.  I have not seen the printed comic yet, but Wayne, Gerry and I did our best to try and live up to JB's beautiful line work.  Maybe we can have a special trade variant printed on newsprint!?!?!?!  (drool, drool)

I would love that !!!

Wayne -- how many copies would you need to send to the printer to make an affordable print run like that (on news-print)?

The simple solution is to just make sure the tpb is on the cheaper paper, right?

I can ask but I think the paper and stuff like that might be out of my hands.
But I will ask about it.

Man I'm loving this series!

Highlights from issue 5:

1. Probably my favorite cover so far (.......background color and logo might be a bit dark though)

2. The double splash is great (pages 2-3), I really like Mudslide.

3. Love the interaction between FX and the more established heroes after the fight on page 7

4. Page 11.....Cool.  Indeed.

5. Sirens, Bigfoot, Pegasus, fairies and a minotaur within three pages!

6. Black Jack looks great.

7.  Pages 18-19 look really great!  Reminded me of the scene from teh classic Jason and the Argonauts, one of my favorite movies!

8. I can't wait to find out about those guys on the last page!

Looks like we're getting a double-sized cover for the finale!  Normal sized comic or will there be extra inside as well??

And once more I find myself enjoying the newest issue more than I did the previous one.  This is quite a good trend.
