JB: When Marvel asked for an Alpha series, I resisted for a long
time. I just didn't see much that could be done with them.

Well, you only ended up creating one of favorite comics ever!

.....especially those first 12 issues!!!

Incredible art -- amazing stories -- pure magic! :)

I suspect that part of the problem is that AF is a Canadian superhero team and almost no one -- not even Canadians -- know what that means, exactly. As a Canadian, I feel that part of the equation is "no gaudy skintight costumes".

I've noticed that problem has surfaced elsewhere, with the Global Guardians which was a DC concept, for one thing.

When I looked at Jack Kirby's 1957 11-story run on Green Arrow I was struck by one of the stories: The Green Arrows of the World.

The basic plot was Olliver Queen put together a meeting between other, international archers, which operated under the same nom-de-guerre. One dressed like a sheik, another was a jungle-boy type, another was a Zorro-type. This sort of made sense to me that foreign superheroes would not follow the skin-tight American model.

Puck is my favourite JB-created character.  I could easily see him in a solo ongoing title...the ultimate underdog

Aside from the recent relaunch which is completely devoid of any originality, at least the previous follow ups did their best to make it a unique book. I can't say I hated what I read of the Bill Mantlo run despite Puck being "healed" and I guess the Beaubiers being fairies??? Then again, I always hate having a character's origin explained to me. I kind of liked the characters he introduced.

What I like about that pin-up -- what really makes it pop -- are that Puck's and Sasquatch's heads are just about the same size in the picture -- even though one is CLEARLY in the foreground...

I would LOVE to see an IDW one-shot by Mr Byrne with him using the EARLIEST versions of his AF character creations --- that would be cool.  Keep them all designed so they are completely different to the existing AF characters
