I've never used it myself, but had a friend that was putting together a costume for Burning Man one year that was using it in the costume. The power source was not much bigger than a 9 volt battery from what I remember.

That jibes with what I've read about EL wire, Chris.

The big issue is time, right now.  I want to complete the Viper so I can move on to other projects (not to mention the annual Christmas projects that need to be completed), and right now the Viper is taking up a signifigant portion of my workspace.  15" fuselages and 9" engines tend to get in the way of everything else.

The prototype landing gear is styrene.  If I add too much weight I'll have to fabricate everything out of brass and solder it together.  Batteries add weight.  And lights are something I hadn't originally planned on for this project.

Steve, have you posted your question to the BSG Forum on StarshipModeler.com?  They might have some advice about your helmet lighting project since they've got quite a few Viper nuts there...

I haven't checked out the Starship Modeler site yet, Bill.  I'll check it out and let you know.

I found a light set that should work for the Viper last week at Hobby Lobby.  I'm hoping to get back to the Viper after I finish the wife's Christmas Superman. (It's a tradition; every year my wife wants a new version of Superman).

I custom gold chrome painted the original -- looks a little better than the dull retail version IMHO.

I am sorry guys for posting these here, I was going to post them in the thread I started for the ponies but it got locked. If it screws up the flow of customing discussion I' ll stop posting them.

I find myself oddly disturbed by Red Ponja there, Jodi...
