Hope this hasn't been asked -- I did a search for "mutt and jeff" and found
nothing so here goes...
Was "Modt and Jahf" (the "guardians" of the M'Krann Crystal) a play on the
comic strip "Mutt and Jeff"?
(Is this already well known?)
As always, thanks for your time!
(Edited for spelling of M'Krann when I looked it up on google...)

Yes, it's a play on Mutt and Jeff.
Funny story: When I was penciling those pages, I jotted the name Jahf for
the little guy and Modt for the big guy in my margin notes to Chris. A few
weeks later he called me, as was his habit, to deliver a dramatic reading of
the script, and when he said the names, I said "Oh, you used those?"
See, with it being Jahf and Modt in the order in which they appeared in the
book, he had not caught the Mutt and Jeff reference.

Jahf's punch on Wolverine (that sent him into orbit) is one of my favourite
little scenes in your run on X-Men...

B'nee and C'cil were Chris' "response" to Modt and Jahf. As you can tell, he
had to wait a while for the opportunity!
