They've shoehorned plenty of sob into Eddie over the years too. The cancer thing, the wife who left him ect. ect.

Really when it comes down to it, Eddie has just enough motivation to be a recurring comic book villain. I mean, seriously, how many of the best villains in comics started out long ago and "just because"?

Venom is fine.

I can handle a guy robbing banks because he likes money more than I can an origin like Brocks. I could accept the fact that Eddie resented Spider-Man and the symboite's deep hatered pushed him over the top. But it always seemed the opposite of that.

I was on a major vacation from comics in the 90's. I missed most of the main events ( thankfully). Going back and picking up a few I will admit that I liked Carnage very much visually ( I can't say much else in praise).

Carnage was best drawn by Bagley. (Except Ultimate Spider-Man's version, that was god awful.)

Funny thing about DEMOGOBLIN... I HATED that name. I was brought in to write the Big Crossover... and was asked to come up with a Doppleganger for the Hobgoblin... I wrote the plot, but had not settled on a name... so, in what I thought of as my FIRST DRAFT of the plot... I wrote the character as the Demogoblin(short for the demonic version of the Hobgoblin)... the editor decided that was a fine name, and put into the solicitations... and I was stuck with it!

Arrrgh!

Cardiac by default.  He wasn't really a villain but I thought he was an interesting character with a GREAT costume!  I don't think he did much after his first few appearances.

Haha, yeah I didn't exactly shed a tear when that church fell on him.

I think that's how Demogoblin died? Killed by Hobgoblin-who-was-really-
Jack-O-Lantern-instead-of-Ned-Leeds-who-was-yet-to-be-reveal ed-
as-a-stand-in-for-Roderick-Kingsley!

Gotta love Spider-Man! :-P

I guess I need to make my pick...

I'll go with Cardiac. Of all of Spider-Man's 1990s foes, he probably had the most developed, most interesting back story. Plus, he had some interesting powers and a really good look -- I definitely got a Jack Kirby vibe from his look.

I wish David Michelinie could had developed Cardiac more than he did.

He wasn't a real villain, his costume was awesome... but maybe he needed some more appearance. I think he appeared in one SPIDER-MAN UNLIMITED a few years ago, but without Michelinie I didn't care about him.

Shame on me, I forgot the one I consider the last great Spider villain: the Black Tarantula. The mystery about his true identity was one of my favorite subplots in those months, and his look was excellent. I think John Romita, Jr. created it.
