Or, just possibly, he could have imagined that the seams would not show,
like the hatch/ramp on Klaatu's saucer.

That's my guess, since the area is labeled as the hangar deck in early sketches.

Man, just that one panel shot of the Enterprise got's me pulse racing!  And I really like that orbital view of the night-time city too!

Wasn't the bowling alley mentioned in The Naked Time located below the hanger deck?

According to the Franz Joseph blueprints, at least.

The location--and existence--of the bowling alley is something that has generated much discussion among Trek fan-blueprinters.

Since Roddenberry (retconning, imho) claimed that the holodeck was part of
his original plans for the show, and only the limitations of technology
prevented him for showing it aboard the original Enterprise, I will
suggest that the "bowling alley", if there was one, would be located there,
so as not to waste space!

Riley's pause, in "The Naked Time", might even be used to argue for this.
He takes a beat to decide what form the location of his party will take!

Oh, so you saw the image when I originally posted it, before I thought better
and cut it back to the cropped version?

No, I saw the version that had flippers mounted on the nacelle pylons! The propeller thing was just a lucky guess!

The flippers were only on the Franz Joseph version.

Mr Byrne -- are you going to do anything "special" for the trade paperback collection of CREW?  3D models, sketch pages, etc.?
