THE ADDAMS FAMILY (2019)

Too much is never enough, apparently. Such a missed opportunity.

(And apparently some people still think the Addams family are the Munsters.)

SHAZAM!

Still gun-shy where DC movies are concerned, so I'd put this off for awhile. But, it was entertaining.

Duel 1971, it`s been years since i first saw this on UK
tv, on a movie night called "Murder, Mystery and
Imagination" they played random U.S. tv movies. It has
dated a bit, but you can see Spiekberg using tricks he
refined for Jaws, then Jurassic Park. My one gripe
watching it as an adult, was where the truck is trying
to nugdge Mann`s car in front of a train at a crossing,
i thought that instead of sitting with his foot on the
brake, he should have turned the wheel to the left and
floored the car sideways parallel to the track!

Pursuit Rule #374: Always run, drive, skip, gallop etc in a straight line in front of your pursuer.

yes, and if your on foot be chased by a car, make sure you stay in the middle of the road. Those curbs are too high to try and manage.

While I did find it enjoyable, at first, it loses
its sheen with subsequent viewings. This will not be a
personal factor with INTO DARKNESS, as I found that to
be a complete turd out of the gate and have vowed
never to watch it again. I don't even remember the
title of the third one, or much about the movie, at
all.
-------------------------

This is a consistent piece of feedback, and it's a
viewpoint that I share. I thought it was pretty good
on original viewing in the cinema, but repeated
viewings have revealed its deep flaws, whereas Into
Darkness' flaws were immediately all too apparent.
I've tried twice to get through Star Trek Beyond, but
have yet to succeed.

I'd read some positive reviews and was thinking if I can
get through enough, I'd get to the good part...

••

The first episode of MURDER SHE WROTE* ruined that bit for me for all time. Jessica was able to figure out Whodunnit from the fact that the episode opened with someone being chased across a field by a car. She pointed out that NOBODY can outrun a car, unless the driver wants them to.

Somehow, that had not occurred to me before.

FANTASIA 2000*

Not really a "sequel" or follow-up... more of a companion piece to the 1940 FANTASIA.

Although this one is already more dated than the original (due in no small part to some obvious CGI sprinkled throughout, plus some celebrity cameos in the interstitials), I love this one a little more each time I see it.  Didn't really make much of a box office dent at the time of its release, and 20 years later, no one seems to write or talk too much about this one anymore, but I find it wonderfully beautiful & profound... both musically and artistically.  Much like the original.

*(Released at the very tail end of 1999!)

JUDGMENT AT NUREMBURG (1961)

Far too long at three hours, and it only intermittently works up the tension of a good courtroom drama.

IT (2017)

The changes to the book were jarring at first, but this gets better for me with each viewing.  Maybe not a "perfect" adaptation of the IT novel, but still one of the better Stephen King movies--Top 10 for me at least.

The young cast is spot-on, with top-notch direction, production design and photography.  If anything else, this is one of the best-looking horror movies in ages.
