In the past week, we've seen Spider-Man, Batman, Captain Marvel, Superman and now Hulk!  Coooool!!!

Looks like this may be the year of the "standard" commission.  The standards seem to be off to a running start this year

This one is mine.

My original request was for JB's take on "the classic battle between the Green Goliath and the Caped Crusader".  When asked which versions of the characters I wanted (Kirbyesque Hulk and lots-o-black Batman or as they looked when Garcia-Lopez drew them), I debated and debated and (obviously) asked JB to travel back in time and draw the characters as they would have appeared 28 years ago.

I'm a happy camper!

Awesome choice of subject Dan, and killer execution, as
usual JB! Now I want this one to go with my
Batman/Spider-Man though...

************

It's like a bowl of ice cream, some ice cream is better than others, but it's all good!!

I was going to use another example, but I'm keeping it PG.

Nice Brad, Real Nice! You know where my brain just went? <grin>

Yes all of the commissions are good,  but the Hulks seem to skew to grading curve.

Wow.  At least Bruce Wayne won't have much trouble finding good medical treatment after this, unless he decides to chance it upon pulling out that sleeping gas cannister before he gets turned into the human slingstone.  Excellent pic, JB!

I'd say this fight is over in about 1/2 a second when Hulk whips Batman about by his cape....

Nice piece.

Dan Avenell beat me to it! "Bruce on Bruce action." Heh,heh, classic.

So I guess I can only say,"Great job, JB!" so I will.

Great job, JB!

No bull, I was just thinking a day or two ago that this would make a great
commission-- and I was right!

Wow, what a coincidence!

BTW, Mr. Byrne, how do you go about drawing massive characters like the Hulk and the Thing?

I'm finding a tendency in myself to try to "correct" the aspects of these characters that are most recognizable about them. For example, when attempting to
draw the Hulk, I tend to make his arms and hands more in proportion to his body-- but then he doens't look like the same massive Hulk! If I go the other
way, he ends up looking like a weird gorilla.

How do you proportion these guys to look "right" despite the fact that we know that they're anatomically "wrong"?

I love that team-up, and I love that interpretation of that classic meeting!
Great job, JB!

I'm torn on who would win this battle.  Obviously, the Hulk would smash Batman if we looked at it from purely a strength perspective, but I kind of think Batman would trap the Hulk into doing something really dumb and getting knocked out. :)

That Garcia-Lopez cover is unbelievable!  Interesting to note that it was the fourth version submitted.

Because they had EDITORS back then.

And they had balls to ask for improvements even on something drawn by GARCIA-LOPEZ!

Fourth, I will never forget.  The editor´s notes on composition and character placement make a lot of sense.
