For this one I should have charged by the pound!!

Approx 11x17 inches

Inspired, of course, by this…

My nighttime buildings have improved just a tad, haven't they?

Spectacular!

My first thought to myself based on the title was, "Mr. A?  No way...."  When I opened it up I thought, "Oh, of course!"

As often happens, there's something I noticed in the scan that I didn't notice
in the drawing before I scanned it.

As you can imagine, the figure of Spider-Man is drawn with an outline,
which I then black in. On his left arm, I seem to have inked slightly to the
inside of my original pencil line, as a result of which the arm is somewhat
thinner than in the pencils, so the right side of his chest emblem appears to
have only three legs. This is now fixed on the original.

WOW! This looks so simple yet you know it's not, JB with the last two commissions how is you supply of ink holding up?

With these last two commissions, plus the ANGEL book I've been working
on, I have gone thru a record number of PITT pens in a really short time!

This is when I miss the Photoshop click-and-fill approach to large black
areas!

••

You still can, Flavio. One-of-a-kind applies only to recreations, not
reimaginings.

Just. . . .   wait a while, okay?

I like it.  I especially like the figure placement.  On the cover, the weight of the figure is pulling down -- giving the sense of gravity and vertigo.

With the new piece, the figure is placed high and I feel him OVERCOMING gravity -- a thousand times more dramatic an image.

Very powerful.

Your new stuff is better!

The original cover had a nice dramatic effect for its time, but this commission really does have a greater sense of height due to the detailed buildings.

Goofing around with the "Find Edges" filter in Photoshop produced this
somewhat interesting (well, to me, anyway!) variant…
