STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION - Season 3 [1989-90]

The season where TNG finally seemed to find their footing... but would really only continue to do so for Season 4 and maybe half of Season 5... after that, I've never revisited those episodes since their initial airings in the early '90s.

As it stands, even these Season 3 episodes (now 30 years old!!) I've not seen in probably 25 years. The first two are rightly forgettable, but there's still some rumblings in terms of performances and dialogue that show where this series was headed, when it hit its peak.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but looking at the trailers, I'm not even sure that I want to. It looked entertaining enough, but the characters just didn't seem as interesting as the characters that were developed for the show - especially Laszlo, Nadja, and Colin Robinson. And setting the show on Staten Island instead of New Zealand is just going to naturally be more amusing to me.

Having seen both, what do you think?

I'm revisiting the Avengers series starring Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg. Ah, life should be so satisfying. Except of course, y'know, with fewer murders. The characters rarely save anyone, showing up right after a death they were trying to prevent or even watching it happen in front of them when the method of execution is some sort of surprise. Which is why I think they were called the Avengers. They won't be able to save you, but they will see to it that whomever is responsible pays for it.

Shaun, you are a brave fellow. I've thought about going there, but pretty much strictly for the spandex-clad guests stars like Markie Post and Jamie Lee Curtis. Biddi-biddi-biddi!

I just did a re-watch of "Duel" with Dennis Weaver.  Spielberg's first movie, but it was originally a movie of the week on TV.  Later it was released in theaters in Europe.

When I was a kid, the truck in this movie creeped me out to no end.  It is one of those movies that I watch every few years and it still holds up well.  The truck alone provided so much menace in the way it was presented.  A lot of thanks went to the stunt driver of the truck, Carey Loftin (Who also drove the truck that killed Edith Keeler).

I am pretty sure this is a movie that could not be properly made or re-made today.  I  know they would not make the main character the type that Weaver portrayed in this movie so well.

I see that it is actually available for free on youtube.  Check it out if you have not seen it.  It is a wild ride.  That is just my opinion though.

DUEL was the main topic of conversation around the lunch table at the College right after it aired. We were all pretty much blown away--except one guy, who complained that we did not get any sort of explanation of WHY the truck driver had gone off on this particular motorist.

I tried to explain that that was pretty much the POINT. The truck was a force of nature, and as such there was no "logic" to it.

He wasn't buying it.

BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25TH CENTURY: Season One [1979-80]

A depressing example of something that was neither fish nor fowl. Take a classic sci-fi concept and try to turn it into STAR WARS, thus ending up with neither.

Seems like I did a lot of that with shows from that vintage!
