Just saw this from Jose Marzan:

Comics legend and Inkwell Awards Hall of Fame recipient Dick Giordano has passed away. I give my sincere condolences from the Inkwell Awards family. A statement from Bob layton is below:
"DearFriends & Colleagues,It is my sorrowful duty to announce thatlegendary artist/editor/entrepreneur Dick Giordano passed awaytoday.Few could ever hope to match what he accomplished in his chosenprofession, or to excel while maintaining great humor, compassion forhis peers and an unwavering love for the art form. His unique visionchanged the comic industry forever and all of those who work in thebusiness continue to share in the benefits of his sizablecontributions.I have been honored to call him a business partner, mentor and dear friend throughout the majority of my lifetime. We willnot see his like again.
Regretfully,Bob Layton"

Aw, f*ck.  Leukemia is a bitch.  God rest your soul, Mr. Giordano, and condolences to your family.

I was just going to post in the previous thread to ask if there were any updates on his condition; this is the one I could've done without.

A nice man.  I remember him doing a con sketch of Sarge Steel for me, looking over my sketch book, and giving me a quick drawing lesson.  Four or five years back I commissioned a Sarge Steel drawing from him, which, I probably shouldn't say at this point, I was a little disappointed in.  I'd always intended to ask him to do a few cover recreations.  That opportunity is now gone, which is the least of my regrets at his passing.  Few contributed as much to the industry, and, so far as I can determine, few were so well liked.  When I met him for the first time about 1967, he said that during his time in the industry, trends had always been cyclical, that he'd never seen a trend last as long as the current vogue for superheroes, and that he thought they would soon be out of favor again.  It was one of the few things he proved wrong about, and though I wouldn't have felt that way at the time, I today regret that he proved an inaccurate prophet on that point.

Oh man

I'm really feeling this.

Dick Giordano was the first professional to personally respond to a letter I wrote to DC Comics. He took the time to read it and hand wrote a response on his very cool DC stationary, and that told me a lot about Dick Giordano - the man.

I have always wanted to get a commission from him - an original that he would personalize to me but now I cant, life is like that.

My sincerest condolences to his family and may he rest in peace

Sad news.  One of those names involved with comics for as long as I can remember.

Terrible news.
Great artist and one of those (few) guys in the industry that seemed to garner a lot of respect from his peers.

RIP

I recall reading a column of his in DC comic (can't remember which one, darn it, so I can't find it now) in which he details his daily routine. It was an intense schedule but his enthusiasm as so evident that it was forever my idealized notion of what it would be like to grow up and work in publishing in New York (which I did, though alas never in comics).

He sent me a personalized reply once as well, and I still have it.  I loved his artwork and considered him one of the best in the business.  This hits me hard as well. RIP.

One of the absolute true greats of comics and a good man from all I've ever heard.

Farewell, Mr. Giordano.
