JB,

My pal Vince Stone is an artist who has worked on smaller press comics like "Captain Confederacy." Years ago he did some covers for a series called "S.O.B. Special Operations Branch" from Promethean Studios. Recently, he learned that the cover for the second issue of the original series was reworked by you for an intended relaunch of the series in 1995, and he was excited that a favorite artist of his recreated something he drew originally.

Here is a link to a web page about the series:

http://home.comcast.net/~pradams6/PSSOB.htm

Do you remember anything about this assignment?

According to Vince and the info on that webpage, JB Forum regular Cory Vandernet was also involved with the series.

And a question for everyone...

Does anybody here have a bigger scan of the JB cover that they can post here?

Thanks in advance.

Wow! I have absolutely no memory of this! If you had just shown me the second cover, with no backstory, I would have guessed it was by somebody aping my style!

Vince was thinking you might not recall it. He says he practically forgot about working on the comics himself.

Christophe, no, I don't have a bigger scan. I was hoping somebody else on the board might provide one.

Well, it's not the bestest scan in the whole wide world, but this is the cover as printed in TAP #3. S.O.B. was a book I had high hopes for. What really attracted me to it was that it had a similar feel to THUNDER Agents, with a Military mindset. The heroes being pulled from the different divisions of the U.S. Armed Forces. Phil Adams, the very talented Writer/Creator being in the US Air Force at the time, started Promethean Studios. The first issue of S.O.B. had already been published, I came onboard and drew what would of been Issue 0, and had started the 2nd issue. I asked JB if he would be interested in doing a cover, and he kindly agreed to. Sadly the pre-orders weren't where Phil needed them to be, and it never saw print.

I'll have to be content with being a 90% Byrne completist.

As Cory said, the cover was actually published as a promotional ad in Tap #3.

I don't remember ever seeing those on the shelves.  Wasn't '95 after the big Comic Spectulator Bubble popped?  That could explain the lack of interest that killed the series so quickly.
