I finally got my hands on a Switch and the new Zelda
title is outstanding. I haven't played too far into it
yet, but the open world aspect is long overdue - it just
feels SO natural!

I haven't played it myself. I've watched my son play the game. I liked it very much.  He has beaten the game twice. I thought it interesting that depending on how you play the game the end battle can be different.

My son on his second go through decided to not increase the number of hearts beyond three.  He says that there are plans for DLC for the game. As far as I know this is the first time Nintendo has done that with the Legend of Zelda.

Yes, I saw that last night - looks like the DLC will be
available in August.

Recently finished Zelda myself, a quite astonishing piece of of software and I'm really enjoying the Switch in general.

90+ hours and I've finally finished HORIZON ZERO DAWN.  Gotta say that it's one of the most enjoyable video game experiences I've had in a while.  That's not to say other games haven't been fun, but this one did such a great job of world building, of voice casting, of open world, of fight mechanics and of setting up a mystery to be solved all in its inaugural title that it's fairly mind-blowing.  So glad there's a set up for the inevitable "next chapter" after the end credits. Also glad that it's the PS4 highest selling original game.

Can't recommend this one highly enough.

Jeffrey Combs is voicing Brainiac in Injustice 2, and it looks spectacular.

Popped in KINGDOM HEARTS the final edition.  Bought it because of nostalgia, but immediately remembered what was so incredibly frustrating about it.  Poor fight mechanics coupled with a bad camera and an incredible amount of button smashing.  Don't think I'll make it through another play through (I actually did finish both 1 & 2 years ago).  We'll see, but MASS EFFECT: ANDROMEDA is now calling to me harder and harder.

Despite the bugs, and even after the big patch there are still a whole lotta bugs, I really enjoyed Andromeda.  If you've gotten used to playing Bethesda games, you'll find the bugs par for the course.

I've played a lot of Bethesda.  You're right.  Buggy.  But I'll be damned if the first ME trilogy isn't one of my favorite games, bugs and all.

So I've played roughly ten hours of MASS EFFECT: ANDROMEDA and I don't know what the problem is.  Yes, the facial graphics are wonky.  But they're wonky on a whole host of games not the least of which is the multi-million selling unit FALL OUT franchise.  Sure, there are glitches.  Characters suddenly get caught up in a glitch and then move three feet right or left of their position.  When you're driving, the Nomad stutters, pauses and then moves forward.  So what?  I feel like people are looking to complain because of their love of the first three games rather than taking this as its own thing set within the ME universe.

In other words, I'm enjoying it...although I've forgotten how tedious the conversations with every. friggin. person. really are.  Other than that, same experience.  You enjoy ME or you don't.  Me?  I do.

As I said, I really enjoyed the game, and got it on release day.  But, to be fair to the people who were complaining, there has been a MAJOR bug fix patch since then which, among other things, completely redid the facial animations.  So the wonky animations you're seeing now are post-patch.  It was the buggiest BioWare game at release that I've ever played.

That said, like Matt said, I loved the original trilogy and really enjoyed this game, bugs and all.  And they did a brilliant job of spinning off in the same universe in a way that's hugely open ended and not beholden to the original trilogy.  If you played those games, there's a lot of extra references, etc. to appreciate.  If you didn't, you can embark on a whole new adventure.

Ah, I see.  I did make it a point to hold off playing ME: ANDROMEDA until patches were released.  Makes sense now that I'm not seeing what others saw day of release.

A couple of recommendations of games I think are under the radar.

TOM CLANCY'S GHOST RECON: WILDLANDS - I play a lot of co op with fellow board member Bob Simko and was looking for something new.  We'd played through SNIPER ELITE 4 (and replayed SNPER ELITE 3) and we needed another game.  There don't seem to be a ton of co op games via the internet (we can't couch play as I'm in LA and he's in Chicago), but I did find this one that looked like fun. After playing though myself and occasionally with Simko (he's GOT to have more time to play on line!) I think it's pretty fantastic.  The characters are wooden, which is my only knock, but the missions are a ton of fun and the open world is breathtaking.

YAKUZA 0 - I've been a gamer for nearly 40 years and I've never heard of this title.  Apparently it's a huge thing with a deep mythology.  But if you want to get in without any of that, this is the game.  It's a ton of fun.  Takes a bit to get used to the mechanics and by that I don't mean the fighting, but how the game itself plays out.  The cut scenes are long, but shouldn't be missed or skipped.  You quickly find yourself caring about these characters and how their story plays out.

NIER: AUTOMATA - Again, another series I had heard nothing about but the recommendations for this title were through the roof, so I tried it.  Expectations met.  Just finished the first of three play throughs and thought it was fantastic. The story doesn't make a whole ton of sense, but the world is rich and the action is intense.  It's a hack and slash game with a heart.

All three of these games are highly recommended.  Try any one of them and you'll be glad you did.

I've never played DESTINY, but I've preordered DESTINY 2 in a bundle so that I can get a white PS4 Pro. I assume the first one was good?

The first Destiny was a bit of a disappointment. story wise until expansions started rolling out than it became fun. As far as the gameplay goes it was pretty good from the get go. The PVP felt very balanced. That wasn't my favorite part of the game. My reflexes aren't as fast as they use to be. But it was still enjoyable at times.

Thinking of buying this:

Used to play rallying and racing games all the time. Wondered if anyone has bought this?

Matt - Did you know that a remake of the first Yakuza hits the PS4 at the end of the month? Wonderful series of games.

I'm really glad to see so many buying and enjoying Nier Automata. The original game was superb but went largely unnoticed while the excellent sequel has really caught on.

I did not know that, so thanks for letting me know. Preordered on Amazon!  Looking forward to it.
