Just started to re-read JBNM again. For my money, this is the best comic book series of the last 20-25 years, bar none. JB, you really showed your skills as a master storyteller here. Truly as close to "art" as comics come. Bravissimo. Need I mention that my breath is as baited as possible 'til December?

I'm up through issue 23 now and I've decided Bethany is my favorite member of the team.
Reading the letters pages and the Flame About This High columns is at least half the fun. Lots of things we talk about regularly on this board were being discussed back then as they were happening. The collapsing sales market, gimmick covers, "hot" artists, etc.
JBNM makes an interesting case study for what was going on in the industry at the time. The first issue was literally record-breaking in its sales and about three years later JB pulled the plug on the series because the sales (and the market in general) had fallen so low. Does anyone (JB?) have some sales figures on JBNM throughout its run? I think it would be interesting to see where the drop off occurred. Is there a sudden shift in sales along the way?

I have read JBNM like many times, but I will not re-read them this time. I will try how it will feel too start reading from issue 31 like a new jumping on point. Of course sometime next year I can start from the beginning and just enjoy...

Same here Martin. Won't read them again cuz it's the one single series I actually read and re-read the most back then. I remember even taking notes on a pad to find a pattern in all the subplots (mostly those concerning the sudden return of Thomas Kirkland). To this day JBNM issue 2 is my favorite JBNM issue: Bethany 'dis-fingering' the biker-rapists was the most powerful (and violent) scene I'd ever seen. And it had the most shocking ending ever: the connection to the 2112 GN was finally revealed at last: Sathanas had travelled back thru time to ensure his own genesis (though we didn't know that at the time...)

I could not agree more, Tim. JB's artwork really pops in b/w. I am ever so happy that I decided to go for the phonebooks, despite the fact that I had the earlier TPBs.
I admit that my first reason was to get a chance to finally read the M4 story in full (in the old TPBs that plot just popped in from nowhere), but having recently read, I must say that the b/w works so marvellously I could've bought them just to read it like that.

I am considering giving my JBNM phonebooks away once I get the third hardcover collection in November. Now if IDW would only print a 2112 hardcover...

I've read now all but the last 4 issue arc. I've decided to read them monthly starting in September hoping to get the "new" one in January. How I'll get it I still don't know.

Dear Philippe, 1. Either send pre stamped envelopes to any comic book shop in Paris, Nantes or Lille and ask them to send u the new JBNM issues 2. Order it from mycomicshop.com With all the enthusiasm towards my favorite JB work (OMAC not far behind) does it mean I have to re-read my 31 JBNM issues again?

All caught up. In the last couple weeks I've read all 30 issues of NEXT MEN plus the DHP "preview" story and 2112. What a great story! And definitely the most frustrating cliff-hanger to a series since the series finale of ALF.
I'm so glad we finally get to read the continuation!
