My dad. He turned 85 this week (August 5th).

Dad fought in World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the liberation of the Nazi Death Camps. Three years ago, he and I went to Holland with five other men from his unit, the 7th Armored Division, to dedicate a monument in one of the towns they liberated from the Nazis. I couldn't believe how he remembered the locations of all the action from 60 years ago, even though the area is just peaceful green farmland now.

Knowing my father for all of my life makes it hard to believe that he is such a part of history, that he met men like General George Patton and is counted among those who crushed Hitler's Nazi Regime.

Happy 85th Birthday to my Dad, Sam.

Happy Birthday, sir. Thank you for your service!

(My Great-Uncle Bob fought in the Battle of the Bulge, too. In the 99th Infantry Division.)

It's precisely because of heroes like your father that it is just peaceful farmland now.

A happy birthday and a round of thanks indeed. You ought to get him to write his experiences down, to bring alive that time to ours and future generations.

Happy birthday and a sincere salute! My wife lost more than half her family in the Death Camps, but some made it through. It's always stirring to see the face of man fighting for right and justice, life and liberty.
