In a world where it's becoming more acceptable to have Frank Castle and Tony Stark's origins related to the first Gulf War instead of Vietnam, why on Earth does Marvel keep insisting on pegging Magneto's childhood to the Holocaust?
It was 65 years ago!!! Magneto has got to be pushing 70 at least, and even though he's been reborn once or twice, giving a character a solid link to something so far in the past is only going to make it worse as time wears on. Soon, he'll have to take a dip in a Lazarus Pit, and we'll slowly be shown how he's been reborn through the ages and has, in fact, got some kind of ties to the Fall of Rome or something.
It'd be like firmly establishing, once and for all, that Ben and Reed fought in WWII together. Or having Peter Parker reminisce about how much different things were in the 1960's when he was growing up.
Insanity! Stuff like that keeps comics "current" but once those references are no longer current, they're forgotten and what IS current supplants it.
