His third WCA cover was the one that really made me say, "WTF?!".  The Vision's skin is missing, and he's turning on his teammates!  Yikes!!!

I think WCA should be taught as how to plot and pace a super hero comic book. It is pitch perfect to me.

Okay... all joking aside... THAT was all due to the editing! I am sure John will agree.

"It had to be said."

Pops, perhaps you had been presented with erroneous data?

I hated the fact that JB was leaving Superman and moving on to WCA but I soon followed. That was before the internet and I remember reading about it in the Comics Scene magazine.

••

Thing was, I left Superman with NOTHING on the horizon. I headed back over to Marvel and asked around for any work. I also pitched HIDDEN YEARS for the second time.

Howard Mackie offered me WCA out of the blue. It was not a book I had thought about doing. I looked at the cast list, saw a whole bunch of fun characters, and immediately said "Can I do my Vision story?" Howard already knew what I meant, as he'd heard me talk about it before. He said "Sure!" and off we went.

Then I went looking for a second title, and Mark Gruenwald asked me if I would be interested in doing something with She-Hulk!

Loved WCA (or AWC as it became). JB drew the Avengers so beautifully and each issue kept you yearning for the next with tantalising little mysteries and plot threads. eg Wasp opens a door and says 'You?!'... and we have to wait for the next issue to find out who.

And Hawkeye is such a fun character. JB's depictions of Hawkeye, Wasp and Hank Pym pretty much made the series for me.

What was the reasoning behind the switch from West Coast Avengers to Avengers West Coast?

Wasn't the title change for alphabetizing reasons? So they'd be together on the shelf?

I saw that Marvel did some later work with the Great Lakes Avengers. Are any of those issues worth reading?
