A question, is it common that blue becomes black when drawing in black and white or few colors?

Not sure just what it is you're referring to here, Lars.

The blue color on the shield around the star is black in the picture, while it's blue whenever the cap is in color. It's as if it's an orange filter in front of the "camera" and a black and white film in the "camera". I wonder how it's calculated what colors are turned to black, so it looks good.

For me, the thing that's great about a commission like this is that it makes me want a one-shot or mini-series about the lesser known character, in this case Diamondback.

Excellent rendition of Rachel Leighton, JB!

Very nice.

Love the pull on Captain America's mask by Diamondback, him cleaning his shield, and the chair (sounds corny but JB draws some of the best furniture).

JB: I notice you have Diamondback's legs crossed. Do you rough in
the full character even when mostly occluded in the final piece?

I never thought of Cap polishing his shield and yet it's so obviously
something the character would do.

Yes, I drew Diamondback first, as a full figure (lightly, of course), then drew Cap in front of her.

wow just an amazing piece. I love how Diamondback is tugging on the mask. Congratulations to the commissioner. Wish I had thought of this myself.
