Is it supposed to be the same car that's modified? It could be that Batman fixes new cars or gets new cars all the time or has a collection of cars. Is it like it's retconned that when we see a new car it has been like that "all the time"?

That's pretty nifty!

Lars, you pose an interesting question.  I've always assumed that Batman has used a succession of Batmobiles--which I guess would mean that he'd have a stockpile of old or superseded Batmobiles somewhere...but why not?  (Plenty of room in the Batcave.)  It never occurred to me that the ever-changing Batmobile was the same car, modified many times down the years, or that each change of Batmobile means an automatic retcon to that "model."

Now, to figure out which one is my all-time favorite, if that's possible...

To me, the one from the Adam West TV show is THE Batmobile.

No, there aren't!  And the "tank" version from The Dark Knight Returns is also absent.

The more I look at that page...there are a lot of Batmobiles there, maybe even most of them, but it hardly seems like that could be every version of the Batmobile ever shown...could it?

Ted, do you mean the "Tumbler?"  If so, it's there.

In Frank Miller's 1980s miniseries The Dark Knight Returns, Batman drove a tank, which I also noticed was absent from the collection.

Michael, I meant the same one Peter's referring to...specifically, this monstrosity, which I think was even called "the Batmobile" in dialogue:

By the way: when I searched for a jpeg of the DNR "tank," I found it on this website, which appears to be a fun resource for Batmobile enthusiasts (and which does feature one of the Generations versions):

JB, I always wondered, what was the significance of the red stripe you had on the 1940's Batmobile in Superman/Batman: Generations?

I like the Tim Burton one and the Brian Bolland one from 1988.
