Received today the latest -- in many ways -- volume of DAN DARE, collected by Titan Books from the EAGLE comics of the Fifties and Sixties. This one, tho titled "The Earth Stealers" also contains the preceding serial, "The Platinum Planet". Especially fun to read the latter, as my English auntie who used to send me bundles of EAGLE had missed the first episode. It wasn't until years later that I realized this, however, as the second episode does a fine job of bringing the reader up to speed. So good a job, in fact, they did not even include the customary "Story So Far" synopsis.

Just finished Close to the Edge: How Yes's Masterpiece Defined Prog Rock by Will Romano, one of the best books on music I've ever read, and that isn't my favorite album even. The author writes he spent ten years on this and it really shows. Interviews not only with the Yes musicians before and after this particular album, and studio technicians, but also managers, and artists in other groups who appeared alongside Yes live and often have real insights and stories that shed light on the Yes recordings.
A 'Backbeat' book it can stand next to Robert Rodriguez' book on the Beatles' Revolver album from just a few years ago.

I'm enjoying the DAN DARE volumes, too. Reprints of the original Dare were sporadic (that's an understatement!) in the 80s, so I'm glad we have the opportunity to read them now.
Okay, I'm a political nerd at times, here's the book I am about to start:

Finally reading the collected DAN DARE volumes that I've been accumulating for at least a decade. The first story, originally published in 1950, dates from about eight years before I was introduced to the character and his cohorts. My earliest reading was of the strip at its absolute peak, so it's a bit of a lurch to step back to Frank Hampson's work when he was only just beginning to find his way.

Just finishing THE DARK BEYOND THE STARS by Frank M. Robinson. A really good generation starship yarn.
Next up is FORGOTTEN The untold story of D-day's black heroes, at home and at war, by Linda Hervieux.

Recently purchased and got this in the mail today and immediately had to read it. I absolutely loved it! Some of JB's best art yet (really loved the opening sequence) and the dialogue was spot on. Now I'm wanting to read the second Michael Swann story.
